For one, the source should be very abundant. Two, it should be easily obtainable. Three, the technology to use it should be available at a reasonable cost, or that cost should be able to be reduced in the foreseeable future.
To that, I say Hydrogen, which is indeed, the most abundant element throughout our universe. Remember, what we call polluntants is really carbon being released into the atmosphere, so if it releases these pollutants it is not an option. Reducing pollution is not solving the problem only postponing the inevidible.

Magnetic is not an option, it would require a train like system of roadways. The rail has to be magnetic with a magnet fixture on the bottom of the car. The two magnets attract holding the vehicle in place - one magenet on the car will not hold it in place. You need to be able to have current travel through the magnets to pull the vehicle forward. Again this is great for a train like service, but not for personal cars.

Hydrogen is the only answer long term.

Ethanol from foodstocks/feedstocks is setting a very dangerous precedent, and should be carefully reviewed, before further expanding the ethanol industry by building new plants.

Corn prices for example are up almost 40%, all mainly due to ethanol demand. This price increase for such an important food item (corn) will result in higher meat, poultry, and food prices for everyone.

HYBRID cars and HYBRID technology make the most sense when it comes to costs, speed of change, ability to implement technology and reliability. Even having HYBRIDS using gasoline today, is a critical part of the solution that can have a very positive impact TODAY on the environment.

We have to stop waiting for the "technology dream answer" and take action now to reduce emissions.

Better a small step than no step at all..

God has a air recycle system that works with the CO2 that has been produced. Some of the other fuels might not work so well and the byproduct might not work so well.
