He's been here and talked to the soldiers. He's in constant contact with the Generals on the ground who, by the way, have a tendency to be brutally honest with him and that's why we finally have a change in direction. Rumsfeld didn't listen. Gates does.

Yes he does. I am sure he is kept up on our losses. He has been over there. He has visited the wounded who are maimed for life. I am sure he is cut to the heart every time another soldier suffers. Give him credit for being a human with a heart. He is not some sadistic person.

Yes, he has an amazing network of information. However what he chooses to do with the information is a different issue.
