I have applied for a job as a civilian for the Us Army but upon hiring you are required to join the reserve. Do they plan on activating people after they become reservists or is this a legitamate job opportunity. Has any one heard of this?

It doesn't sound like a trick. You have to join the reserves to work for the military. You know all the facts. What do you think the chances are that you will be called up?

I believe that is illegal but don't quote me on that. They cannot require you to join the reserve, as it is an Army of volunteers. They would activate you if you became a reservist because, as you know, George Bush is sending 20K more in troops to Iraq and has to get these troops from somewhere. Already our troops are stretched too thin, so yes, the Government is ALWAYS trying to trick you into serving. Don't do it unless you want to end up in Iraq.

Most reservists don't get called up. The one I know personally that was called up was in the military for 8 years and then, after all his commitments were fulfilled, he chose to stay as a reservist. He was ASKED to go back in at the beginning of this because of his leadership qualities and the job that he did before in the military. He accepted and went for a year and a half. He had the choice not to go.

That doesn't sound correct. There are plenty of civilians that work for the department of defense that aren't members of the armed forces. If you have to join the reserves to do the job, you must have misunderstood what you were "applying" for.

Don't sign up if you just want a easy desk job. The military is the government, why would you ever think you could trust them? All they want are bodies to satisfy their quotas.
