I am not from or are familiar with Boise, Idaho....However, my friend just got married at an outdoor wedding at the beginning of October in Northern Illinois. I can't see the climate being much different. She found a shelter she liked at a local state park that was surrounded by beautiful trees with all the fall color. They decorated the shelter/gazebo (whatever you wanna call it) and it looked amazing. The wedding was quite small...only family and close friends. After the wedding they had a reception at a local hall when everyone who didn't come to the wedding could come to give their well-wishes and have dinner, dance, etc.
This kind of idea would cover you even if the weather wasn't the best...You are not out in the open but still surrounded by the beauty of the season and nature.

Call the folks at the Boise Convention and Visitors Bureau at 800.635.5240. They will know of such a place. When I ran a CVB in West Virginia we had a data base of "locations" and were prepared to provide such information to those inquiring for movie location shoots, etc. I agree about not going into debt over that one day. There is plenty that's worth spending your money on, but the location (when there's so much scenic available) isn't one of them. I know the CVB will help you out. If they don't know about it, it doesn't exist.

Try a state or county park. Make sure that you also have a plan for bad weather to move the party indoors, or at least under a tent. Good luck!
