And if nobody joined the military what would you do?
You don't lose your rights in the military, they are just suspended at certain times. This is well understood before you ever get out of basic training. Contrary to popular belief, recruiters don't lie that much to people. You've probably been lied to more by telemarketers and your congressman. They will focus on the positives and gloss over any negatives, like any other salesman. They ARE salesmen. They sell the military to people as a job. Its an easy sell, actually. They pay for college. They pay for health insurance (you and your spouse). They offer free training in over 100 different career fields. They offer $400,000 in life insurance for about 30 bucks a month. They offer the best retirement plan you'll find outside a CEO's office. They offer 30 days paid vacation per year that can accrue up to 90 days in some cases. I came up with all that without really trying and I'm not even a recruiter.
So, I don't think they're taking advantage of people or preying on people. They encourage you to talk to your parents about it before you sign. But they won't stop you from signing if you are determined to.

First, I think we should have a military draft in this country and that every person (man or woman) have to serve for 2-3 years. A lot of other countries do and our present generation would have a much great appreciation for our country if we did have the draft.
Also, based on our history and World War II for example, you should thank God we had a draft...otherwise, we'd be writing these in either Japanese or German!
If parents have done their job correctly raising their kids in the first place (this isn't the job of the school system), then Military Recruiters are not preying on our youth and more than some college recruiters do. After all, we expect them to leave high school with an idea of what they want to do the rest of their lives, I can't imagine anything more noble than the service of our country.
Also, any time you get a 'job', even with Uncle Sam, you lose rights of some type...every company has some type of rules to regular their employees...when to be at work, when to leave...when you can eat lunch & how much time you have for it...what you can wear or not wear...what days you have to work... what type of benefits you get or don't get...and there are many more examples too. Would you raise this same question about Police or Fire Department recruiters?
Just be thankful that there are young people out there willing to take these dangerous jobs to protect you and help to prevent your loss of rights.

Preying on our youth huh. Are we biased or what. The military is a viable option for a young man or woman. It provides discipline and job training not too mention college tuition.
A recruiter talked to my son when he was 17 and the recruiter did not act in an unprofessional manner.
As far as risks, I live in the Metropolitan New Orleans area where we are averaging a murder a day not too mention the other crimes. At least in the military you can carry a gun at all times to protect yourself.

I don't think you have the issue right. Parents are to help their children with these kinds of decisions. The only time the recruiters can act as car salesmen is if the parents aren't there to help guide. Not that lies aren't made even with the parent, but it slows it down. I have never met a recruiter that was that awful. I have had a past recruiter lie to me and one of my children, guess what, he is no longer a recruiter. My daughter filed the papers that helped stop him. Not only him, his CO was held responsible as well! I am glad the recruiters came to the high school to give my children yet another option for their lives!

It is their job. I can tell that you have never been in the military, and I thank God that you haven't---it is a better place for your absence. Many of these young men and women need a career, but they lack either the funds or the academic standing to enter college. The military offers them an excellent opportunity to develop skills, get an education and serve their country. the military is a profession for the young; therefore, where do you think the military should recruit from? War is deadly and people die in war---that is a fact of life and the military does not attempt to hide this from recruits. The odds of getting killed or seriously maimed are relative low compared to the number of people that serve in the military. Almost all duty assignments in the military are peaceful---you only hear about the wars because that is all that the media wants to concentrate on. Ignore all the garbage on TV---most of it is lies and it is slanted to achieve the medias agenda, which is mind control.

They're not preying on anybody. It's a valid option for kids. If you don't like it, then explain to your children the cons. But be open minded. The military is an important part of our country. It's also a volunteer force. The loss of rights is minimal, the training, education, and benefits are good, and the discipline and confidence go a long way after your military career is over.

I don't see anything wrong with them recruiting in high schools. For some kids the military is the best option for them and for others it's not. It's just giving kids an option to choose if they want to go that path of life..So no I do not think it is taking advantage of my children.

When I was recurited i went directly to the station, and said this is what i want to do and they said that what you see isn't exactly what you hear, they told me the pros and cons, the next week they were at my school and I was like woah, cool, people were talking and to use the word 'prey' you must me a left wing extreamist who thinks military is horrible when in reality i have more money than my 26 year old sister (i'm 18 just outt a boot) because of my job, I'm 0311 in the Corps, and I've never been happier, I encourage everyone to at least sit down and talk but to use the word prey is horrid, I'm going to school full time and in hte PLC (officer route) car slesman sh*t me as$ in the UCMJ it says they cannot lie, now if a recuriter says alot of our bases have private houseing...a kid may think that EVERY base has it. So if you're anit military,. aint-amarica, aint-whatever, thats your cup of tea but to think that they are preying on children is just WRONG!

I have no problem with it. It's no different than having a job fair. Would you be opposed to that? Joining the military is voluntary. And as long as public schools take Federal money, they have to let recruiters on campus. If the recruiters are banned then they lose all that money. No school district is going to risk that. Well, except the ones in San Francisco.

you're soooooo correct. "this not predators preying on our youthful ones" The Recruiters are basically doing their jobs. they are informing youthful ones on one option. An option that can shelter them and their households. one which will enable them to get out of mom and dad's domicile and be a large boy for once. in case you basically concern them leaving domicile. it really is going to happen. in case you concern they are going to die. The will be hit through a bus or get into drugs..Wait a sec young children under no circumstances do drugs there is too a lot moral disipline interior the yankee teens at present. I comprehend that maximum teens at present are growing to be up in chance-free cities far flung from violence. all of them play the paino and are waiting to satisfy that one particular someone. Or awaken beave! the international is harsh. the military provides alot of folk the flaws they opt to make it in this international. some delight. some funds. some skills and a relatives which couldn't give up on you or bangs you round like a set of drums. the protection force is a superb problem for youthful individuals at present. do not belive me ask a vet.
