Contrary to what people say, it does not kill brain cells. Once I started smoking everyday I starting doing a lot better in school because it helped me focus. I'm a straight A college student now.
However, some people may lose focus because it's different for everybody.

This is the no-B.S. truth: I used to have a photographic memory that was razor-sharp, so I did very well in school. In college I smoked marijuana just a few times, but that was all it took to affect my memory. I couldn't remember things nearly as well after smoking marijuana, and there were actually "holes" in my memory where I forgot things I said or did while smoking dope. The memory thing has only gotten worse over time, and I stopped smoking dope a LONG time ago. No question in my mind that marijuana really does turn people into jelly-brained idiots. Do yourself a favor and don't even try it.

As with most things, it depends on the person and how much or when they smoke it.

The effect on school performance is two fold. It effects short term memory, which makes it a bit harder to remember what you need to remember for the tests. Of course, for some this is more of a problem than others. It also gives a false feeling of euphoria and well being (after all, why else would one bother smoking it). In many cases this false euphoria can cause one to simply loose the motivation to do well in favor of getting stoned and having a good time.

well know to start off i can tell you from personall experience of smoking dope for the last 25 years. yes it does effect your memory. i would of never believed this but it is true. if your going to continue to be a user keep it for the weekends. the best advise i can give you is stay away from it. one it is expensive and two your lungs will thank you for it. I sure do wish that i had all the money that i have spent on it over the years. But it is your choice. and keep in mind even if you dont believe me first comes cigarettes then comes dope and then comes the harder drugs. once you hit that stage god help you because the drugs that are out there today will mess you up for life if you manage to stay alive. It is not a pretty site, take it from someone that has been there and survived. I have thanks everyday that i got out of it when i did. thankfully i was a teenager when i did. I had to get rid of all my friends it was hard but it sure was worth it. im 40 now and i live in the same town that i grew up in. the friends i used to have some still live here, and guess what. they went no where in life they still use hard drugs and they look like they have been put through a ugly machine they lok so old i cant imagine what there insides are like. Not one of them own houses or can hold down a job. some are dead and some of them got in so deep that they have a price on their heads. yes this can and will happen to you do yourself the biggest favor you can and stay away from drugs and do not associate with people that do use, they will run your life right into a pine box. especially with the drugs that are out there today.

It isn't called "dope" without good reason! That dull, dazed feeling in your head while high will interfer with your best judgement & sharpest thinking at the moment but the more serious long term affects of white brain-cell burn out isn't immediate & shows up later in life. When a long term pot smoker gets older, their brain will function less sharper, compared to others their age who didn't smoke pot or had quit at an early age. If pot smokers think they're smarter than half the people they meet then the people they're meeting are probably TOTAL burn outs!

Dont do it! I used to smoke it alot when I got home after work to chill me out. It reduces your concentration to about 5%. It turns most people into zombies. It is quite similar to being drunk. So the chances of learning whilst high on weed is probably 0%.

the effects differ per person, but on average it will cause concentration problems and motivational problems.

As for anyone talking about how it doesn't affect them? Ask these same idiots in 5 years.

It definately affects your school ability as it tends to kill off your brain cells a little at a time. You will have trouble retaining what you have learned and you will not be able to concentrate properly.

Because your brain is divided into two hemispheres (lobes). The residue (or THC), blocks the signals from the two lobes crossing, so that is why people appear so slow.
