No...Educated Biblical scholars will tell you that time periods were measured differently. 40 days and 40 nights simply means...a very long time. We truly do not know what a "day" might have represented...then or at other times in past history.
No global flood???? I am surprised you guys took this one on. Have you seen An Inconvenient Truth; studied up on global warming; or the very real scientific possibility of a large meteor striking the earth.

Forty days of flooding isn't so hard to grasp if you think back to the Red River and Mississippi River floodings in the early 90's, I believe it was '93. They inundated the midwest for months on end and caused incredible damage. What's so hard to take about the Genesis flood is that it covered the entire world, the building of the ark, Noah, all the animals coming 2 by 2...I don't think so. A flood of that caliber NEVER HAPPENED.
I'm not saying there wasn't a devastating flood that the story is based on~evidence is pointing to the possibility that one on a grand scale occurred. Floods happen all the time, and when caught in the midst of rapidly rising water it really does seem as if your entire world is ending. Most likely the writer of the story experienced a flood or was told of one, and we all know how stories tend to grow with time.
As for the ages....think like this. 999 years divided by 12 months to a year =83 years, 3 months. Now that's a much more acceptable age, isn't it? I don't know if they were counting months or moon cycles, but they most definately weren't going by actual 365 day years.

I keep saying this: if there was a world wide flood and the waters hung out for a year or so after the rain stopped ALL LIFE ON EARTH WOULD BE DEAD! this means every plant and tree and grass etc. only fish and underwater plantlife could survive, assuming the salinity remained constant where it needed to and the temperature didn't drop too much... o wait. a year? forget that, all underwater plants would die too because of the water pressure and all the fish that hangout at the floor of the see would die for the same reason. only fish that were able to adapt to the rising waters and swim near the top could survive, but what would they eat? eachother. a worldwide flood would have killed most EVERYTHING on the planet. Even the salt content would have been stirred up and dilluted killing the saltwater animals. then after the waters receded what would the herbavores eat? a soggy dead tree? what would the carnivores eat? the last 2 of many species. what would man eat? the last two of many species and would NOT be able to ever plant anything because all plant life would be dead.

The story of Noah's flood is greatly exaggerated. The whole world didn't flood.
The only source telling us that people lived to be 900 years old is the same source that contains the tall tale of the great flood. I'd imagine that that's greatly exaggerated too.

the day would have been a few hours different but if it says 40 days it means 40 days why read the bible if you dont believe it?
man was created to never die. when sin entered the picture death did as well. you belive that there was a world wide flood and you dont think God can keep a man alive for hundreds of years? the bible is literal why would God leave interprating his words up to us were morons.
if you take an oxegen rich paridise without desease and put Gods original version of man(we have degenerated since) in it you will see life spans of hundreds of years.

Repeat after me.
There. Was. No. Global. Flood.
None. Ever.
There is simply no evidence for any such a thing ever occurring. No geological evidence, no biological evidence, nothing. The myth of the global flood was borrowed from the Sumerian myth of Ziusudra, written on a tablet in Sumerian. The first part deals with the creation of man and the animals and the founding of the first cities - Eridu, Badtibira, Larak, Sippar, and Shuruppak. After a missing section in the tablet, we learn that the gods have decided to send a flood to destroy mankind. The god Enki (lord of the underworld ocean of fresh water and Sumerian equivalent of Ea) warns Ziusudra of Shuruppak to build a large boat - the passage describing the directions for the boat is also lost. When the tablet resumes it is describing the flood. A terrible storm raged for seven days, "the huge boat had been tossed about on the great waters," then Utu (the Sun) appears and Ziusudra opens a window, prostrates himself, and sacrifices an ox and a sheep.
Sound familiar?

No, we don't understand it yet. But we do have some interesting archaeological facts. They found a bronze hammer in TEXAS awhile back. Interestingly, its chemical makeup included chlorine.
That's not possible in our current atmosphere. If that's not proof that man lived in a different, pre-Flood world WITH A CANOPY at some time in antiquity, I don't know what is!
Venus still has its canopy.

actually the bible says it rained for 40 days and nights. then the waters were still until the water lowered. it could have been a year they were on the boat.
and i know how it was actual 24 hour periods. Jesus said, the Word is the Truth.

The rain lasted 40 days but Noah and family stayed much longer than that in the ark.
Most of the water came out of the earth.
