my grandmother lives with my family and she drives me crazy, but i can't get mad at her cuase she doen't do it on purpose. ex. this morning she read the headline of the paper outloud 6 times!! and laughed at it every time. she also "tidies up" by moving things around, i can never find anything! Puts dirty dishes away. hides things in odd places.

Well, little darling, this is a tough one, alright. My MiL has had dementia for many years now. One year, my husband and I lived with them so I could care for her, so I was 'on duty' 24/7.

I had to work very hard to remain patient. I meditated and/or prayed several times a day to calm myself. I took her on frequent walks and would ask her to name the flowers and trees. Sometimes, I just let her ramble which was OK because my mind was occupied with the flowers and trees. Numerous times during the day, I would remind myself that in many ways, she's like young child. That helped me be more understanding.

And occasionally, I would just escape. To the bedroom. To the bathroom. To the front porch or back yard.

I tried to strike a good balance between caring for myself and caring for her. Both were necessary. I love her a lot and I'm glad we had so much time together. Good Luck to you and your family...

I don't live with my dad, I live about a mile away, but I see him several times a week. You have to realize they are just being helpful. My dad put an entire case of SODA in the freezer and it exploded and my mom had to defrost the freezer to clean it up but what can you do? He feeds the cat Ritz crackers and sleeps with his favorite things (scraps of paper with notes) under his pillow at night.
Take a walk when it gets to be too much. Try not to leave anything important out where your grandmother might put it "away".

Yes, my mother in law. You are right, it will drive a person crazy! But I tell you one thing I have learned, when she is repeating and repeating, I change the subject to something from her childhood. For example, I would ask what was doing laundry like when you were at home with your mom? And that stuff from 75 years ago she can remember as if it happened yesterday. So I have been learning alot about life long ago. At least she talks about the subject and we hold what seems like a normal conversation for awhile. Give it a try.
