I'm 5'3" and I weigh 265lbs. I really want to get a tattoo, and I've wanted one for years and years...I've thought about it and thought about it and I've finally decided on one...I want a black tribal ankh that is made into a spider with a cut out of a lightening bolt in the base of the ankh. This design means a lot to me, and I'm willing to put up with the pain...but my real question is where should I get it? I'm bigger and I DO NOT want to look 'tacky' or 'trashy'. I usually dress in just a tshirt and jeans, and I don't want it anywhere that would interfere with a job...

On your back between your shoulder blades.

I have 15 tats. Started at 25 years old and don't regret one of them. They have never deterred me from getting nor keeping a job. And if someone was judgmental because of them, well it was good to find out early that's how they are rather then learning well into the friendship; but that has never happened to me. And as far as tat's being a tramp stamp, so far from the truth. I know of plenty of tatted up chicks that don't put out and plenty of easy women who wouldn't even consider inking. Anyone who thinks like that probably pursued a chick with a tattoo and didn't get her; you know how it goes. 'Oh, she went with that guy instead, she's a sl ut!'

Sorry, but one more addition. I used to be friends with this chick who had a dolphin tattooed around her belly button before she had her 2 kids. The 2 pregnancies didn't distort it.

I am not a small girl by any means myself. However, all 3 of my tattoos are in locations that if should I gain more weight it will not be so much in these locations as to stretch my tattoo. I have my foot, ankle, and wrist done.

Since you are a larger woman, make sure your tattoo is of a larger size to flow with your body more. Have you ever seen a very large person walking an itty bitty dog and thought how weird it looked? This is what a smaller tattoo would look on you. Just my opinion anyway.

I don't vote on the arms. Perhaps a shoulder blade where it can be hidden but can also be shown off should you choose.

I personally would not get it on the breast only cause it can stretch sometimes. I have 7 tattoos, and I'm a bit taller than you and weigh a little bit less, and none of mine are "tacky" or "trashy" as I have them in inconspicuous places. I have one small dragonfly behind each ear, 3 larger nautical stars across my shoulders, and both my feet are sleeved. Feet and ankles aren't bad, shoulders aren't bad places either and can almost always be hidden, mind you I work in a hospital, so I have to look very presentable all the time! Those would be my suggestions, good luck!

I am a bigger girl too and I had thought about getting a tattoo also. I have the same issue. I don't want to get it anywhere that would most likely stretch or get distorted because of my shape. The only place I could think of would be in the middle of the back between the shoulder blades. Any where else would possibly stretch or shrink if your weight changed. I also considered the ankle but if you were to wear a skirt, it would show.

ok i think on your back between your shoulders would be cool! I have a couple tatts myself and i love them! The back is a closed off place that people at the job won't see, only if you show them! That's not very professional anyway. So just be cool with your tattoos. No man should ever judge you because of a tattoo. Thats just stupid! I have 3 and my man has 8! I will be getting more and he supports what i do!

I think the best place for that would be in between your shoulder blades or on one shoulder blade closer to the center. I am bigger too and have two of them I have a rose on my right ankle and "thumper" over my left breasts. Tattoos are not tacky anymore, everyone has them. They do not carry the same definitions as they used to. Get it where you want and be proud.

I don't think that YOUR size matters, but the size and location of the tattoo sure does, especially if you want a career in a conservative field like law, health care, insurance, etc.... because you will be judged in a negative way if you have a larger, very visable tattoo. I'd go for the upper back, behind my shoulder- which would be covered by most work clothes, but could be visible with certain sleeveless tops, for casual settings.

Wow, a lot of folks said what I was gonna say. I'm a 'more to love' kinda gal as well. My first is about 8x10 in the middle of my back. My second goes from knee to ankle, outside left calf. I chose these spots because I knew the would age well (saggies and baggies would look kinda good with mine though...hehe) and not to disorted should I gain (God forbid) or lose weight. Go ahead and get your tatt. My story is very simular to yours and I finally got mine..and I am not done yet....Hope you love yours! Keep my posted. I'd like to see what you do :) I've included the links to mine if you want to see.

Your best bet is to get it on your shoulder blade or ankle. Personally I don't think tats are tramp stamps as long as there not to big and not vulgar like some of the tats men get.

If the tats not color you might be able to get it pretty small, but if you want it larger I wouldn't go over say 4 inches. I hope this helps and good luck with your tat. Would love to see a pic when its done.

Remeber don't scratch at it!!!

If you ever lose weight the tattoo will become horribly disfigured as your skin shrinks or stretches in different ways.
The best way to honor your design would be to adopt a healthy lifestyle and give the tat to yourself as a reward when you reach your recommended weight. There's lots of free advice and things on the Internet.
5ft 3in and 265lbs? My bf is 5ft 9in and at 250lbs the doctor said he needed to lose at least 30lbs for blood pressure and to head off diabetes.
