Read the power adapter. If it says 110/220 50/60hz you'll just need a plug adapter, although many hotels have at least one plug that will accept pin or blade 2 prong plugs which would mean you don't even need an adapter. MOST, read that again, MOST will be able to handle it, but as I said look at the label to be sure. It is easy to step down 220 to 110, but the frequency rectification can be trouble depending on their design. I have ran into a few computer components that didn't care for the 50hz, and usually go in pretty painful death.

I don't of any laptop that won't accept either 220 or 110, as the power supply is able to convert either 220 or 110 to the correct voltage to power your laptop, to be sure, just check the converter and make sure is says 110/220 input. I am presently answering your question from Thailand with my HP laptop plugged directly into the wall. No adaptor is necessary, most plugs will accept the two prong pin or two prong blade type of plug, it probably won't hurt to bring along a two prong pin style adaptor in case you run into an old-style plug here (very rare). Also, if you have the two prong blade style plug where one of the prongs is wider than the other one, you might want to bring along an adaptor that has two same-sized prongs, as the plugs in Thailand do not easily accept the type where one is wider. My laptop is always plugged in here and I assure you, you will not damage your computer (unless there is a power surge). If you want to bring your computer just to check an occasional e-mail, you may not even want to bring it along, as there are internet stores almost everywhere and very cheap. Have a good trip!

Just double check that the laptop power transformer is of dual voltage (110/220) type and she will not need anything else. US is 110VAC while Thailand is 220VAC.
Otherwise a power convertor will be necessary.

No it won't. You just need a plug adapter for the right thing to plug into the wall. Most appliances, etc. have transformers built in to convert the power.

read the manual for the laptop, very simple, most chargers for laptops are 110/220.
