Since people generally get dogs to be companions, in order for the dog to do his job and be a companion, he'd have to be in the house with you of course.

Considering that you purchased a rottweiler, I assume that you have the space in the house to keep him/her. Rottweilers are short hair mine did not tolerate winter weather very well. I kept her inside. When I would leave, I would put her in the basement, so that she would not destroy anything. If you are housing her outside, Make sure that you have a 6ft tall kennel, preferably with a top and a lock on the gate. Rotts are hearding dogs and very protective but awesome companions.

IN THE HOUSE! The worst thing you can do with a Rottie is keep them outside. We have had Rotties for years, and they go so far as to sleep next to or even IN bed with us (if they don't get kicked while we sleep :-P). They have been loyal as all get-out, never once growled or showed agression PERIOD. Our Rottweiler now is so well-behaved my 7-year old sister puts dress-up clothes on her and parades her around the house without a single complaint from the dog. KEEP YOUR BABY INSIDE! The most important thing in owning a Rottie is to constantly show them love - this is ALL members of the family! You will be rewarded with the most loyal, PROTECTIVE, and kind companion you'll ever find.

Like any dog, a rottweiler will crave human companionship and should be in the house with you. If you mean for sleeping quarters, get him a crate. Or if he has to be outside some of the time, get a fenced area, such as a kennel, and include a doghouse, water, and make sure part of it is shaded.

Rottweilers are extremely people oriented. Since they can develope aggression, they need to be around people as much as possible. If you chain them up outside and pretend they don't exist, it will only lead to trouble. If they are outside, make sure they have fresh water at all times, feed them regularly, and spend time with them. The preferred situation would be to have them indoors with you. They are very loyal, unique, and lovable when given time to bond with their owner. I've owned one in the past, and I have two right now, and they won't be the last. They're an amazing breed, just make sure you do it right.

IN THE HOUSE FOR GOODNESS SAKE ! We got a Rottie two years ago and we love him to bits ! He was in a crate at night for the first year or so, then we let him sleep where ever he wants now (of course it is in our room) There are times when we are going to be gone to long to leave him in the house so we built him a lovely dog house that is nearly as nice as our own home(with all the cozy convinces). Rex is a very spoiled dog but he deserves it for being a wonderful ( and very important ) part of our family. So, be good to your rottie and they will return the love 10 fold !!

In the house, of course! Why get a dog if it is just going to be left outside in a doghouse all the time. Dogs need companionship too.

Depends on if you want him to be a house dog or and outside dog. Either way, Rotts are very social and love to have their owners in their sight.

KEEP HIM IN THE HOUSE!!! I am assuming that you got him to protect you, right? How can he protect what he perceives as "his" if you dont let him do it. Mine sleeps with me! One of the sweetest sounds i have ever heard is the sound of him sleeping very soundly (snoring) with his head against my arm.
