Surrey, BC - a neighbour city to Vancouver. It is zero today with loads of sun that makes you feel wamer. When you put a coat or sweater on and warm shoes, it doesn't matter if it's 45 degrees fahrenheit or zero. I laugh when people ask if you can go to work in winipeg when it's cold as minus 10. When we lived in Yukon, it could go down to MINUS 40 degrees and we still walked to work. Clothing is made warmer and your own physical activity keeps blood moving - and the office is warm as toast as your home! This part of BC is only a couple of hours from Seattle and our weather is comparable to Seattle and San Francisco usually. It is very unusual to get snow so all the children are very happy to have the snjowfall we got a couple of days ago. It will be gone by weekend, though, and we'll be back to temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees Celcius ( 40 to 47 degrees fahrenheit) By February the tulips will be blooming and it will be balmy. Our grass stays green year round and primulas, roses, bloom all winter. Banana trees and other tropicals grow here as well. Yukon is like Alaska. Saskatchewan and Manitoba are like North Dakota. I used to live near Winnipeg and - yes - Brrrrrr.. as winnipeg is as windy as chicago and that extra wind chill can be very cold. Hearty Manitoba people drink a few brewski's and go curling! Horray for our diversity! PETA_WAB : where the heck are you because Surrey is just 30 minutes away and it sure as heck isn't -16 degrees windchill. I just walked up street for my mail in a sweater!

Just kidding...we know is coming but enjoying the great weather has been fun...as you can tell I am NOT a cold weather person...

WAAAHHHH!
I'm in Vancouver - it is apprently -16 w. windchill, and there's frozen stuff on the ground, ice snow, trees falling ...
(sob)
we're just not used to this kinda abuse here on the left coast..
I'm wearing several sweaters, a toque and fingerless gloves as I type this from my too-cold, uninsulated old house.
(shudder)
I have a whole new found respect for you tough bastards from the 'Peg
EDIT:
Kazakan44, your years on the tundra have apparently toughened you so much - you don't even notice the cold! i'm in East Van.. here's what the current coniditions on the "weather network" site says:
-5°C
FEELS LIKE -10°C
WIND 11 km/h E
GUSTS
RELATIVE HUMIDITY 73%
DEWPOINT -9°C

The temperature is just above freezing with a lot of dampness in the air. I'm in Durham, Ontario, two hours north of Toronto. Temp is expected to drop for the weekend.
