She is beginning to yelp when she gets up and when she walks or tries to go up the stairs. She's part lab, so maybe just a hip problem. However, we are also beginning to notice she has large bumps or bulges, large enough I can cup my hand around them - a large one behind one of her front leg and one in front of one of her back legs.

I already had an appointment to take her to the vet - I was looking for a heads up as to what was wrong w/ her. The lumps were fatty deposits (nothing to worry about) and the yelps were due to the dog equivilent to lower back pain - she's on dog asprin.

She needs to see a vet now! Yelping in pain is never good, neither are large bumps large enough to put your hands around. Could be tumors or cysts. Take her to see a professional NOW!

First of all I want to respond to you saying it's "maybe just a hip problem". If it is a hip problem it's serious. Hip problems in dogs can be extremely painful. I knew someone that had a dog with hip problems, when the vet did the xray to look at the problem it was found that the balls of the hips didn't sit in the joints at all and was causing tremendous pain. Either way, if it's a hip problem or something else it sounds like your dog is miserable right now and needs to be taken to the vet immediantly. Find out what is wrong and see what can be done about it. But please don't wait and let your dog suffer in pain.

Please take her to the vet,she sounds like she is in misery. If she's a older dog and there's something that will only get worse don't make her suffer so you will have her around.A friend of mine had a dog that was 14 years old and very ill, didn't take her to the vet and let her suffer outside for a good month. The vet did come and put her down then told them that the dog had diabeties and cancer of the rectum and they should have called her sooner. They regret it but like the vet said it is the humane thing to do for a loved pet.......

The large lumps are probably pressing on nerves or on her joints. You should take her to a vet. If you wait too long and they get too large they may become inoperable and you will end up having to put her to sleep to stop her suffering. Only you can help her. Take her to a vet asap.

So why is it that everyone has time to ask these questions on here when they know that the answer is 'take the dog to the vet" Did you actually think that there was going to be a magic answer?
If you were crying out in pain wouldnt you think it was time to go see a doctor?

Please take your dog to the vet ASAP.It could be a fatty tumor, which I really doubt since they are not painful to a dog. Hopefully not, Osteosarcoma which is cancer of the bones.Your vet will more than will have to do some xrays to diagnose the appropriate cause of the problem. Good luck.

Are the bumps in the joints? If so, it could be OCD (Osteochondritis Dissecans). My dog had it and it looked like his joints were huge. He developed the symptoms around 9 or 10 mos. of age.

But you definitely need to get your girl to the vet and find out for sure.

they could be tumors, as previously mentioned, or they may be bengin (harmless) growths. But the yelping does not sound good - you may be right, it could be her hips, or arthritis generally. The vet will be able to give hydrocortisone and pain killer injections, and remove the lumps should he need to

It sounds like it could possibly be arthritis, or those bulges could be tumors. Get her to the vet as soon as you can and have them check it out. If you want to keep her alive, you may be able to get some medication for arthritis, or if they are tumors then they may be able to be surgically removed. Either way, get her to the vet!

I hate to tell you this but your dog may have tumors.Take your dog to the vet ASAP....Because it may save its life.tumors can be cancerous or not but you will have to have them cut out or maybe radiation treatments.how old is your dog? sometimes older dogs get bumps from age mine has them but better to have the vet check.I don't want to scare you but its better to know for sure and thats the only way.
