Death is usually a symbol of change or rebirth. The mind speaks from subconscious to conscious in terms and symbols that it already knows.

Now look at your present life situation. What are the similarities between the 2, life situation and cousin? How does your 4 yr old fit into this.

How did your cousin die?
How do you remember your cousin before death?

Maybe there is something that your child has to overcome for a new stage of growth. Or maybe you have to view this as a new stage for him/her(child). Looking at them in a different light. Change the person and the situation changes.

most time death in dream means that something new will begin in ur life soon.. seeing you 4 yr old in a casket is probably ur subconsious telling you that he or she will not be a small child for much longer. Soon he/she will be 5 starting school and growing up.. its probably nothing to worry about.

Death:
Consistent symbol for change and separation in dreams, that should not be interpreted literally. Dreams of a child, sibling, or parent dying reflect change in our perception of that relationship. Old qualities of the person are “passing away,” new qualities are being recognized. Dreams of death of an ex-lover reflect separation of the relationship. Mothers of toddlers often dream of accidents, including death, befalling a child. The dreams are not precognitive. Rather, a mother’s concern for her child’s safety, represented by the accident, never rests!

That is a scary dream--But it doesn't have to be about an actual death--What about your son reminds you of your cousin who died?..I would 1) take extra care of my son for awhile--just to be on the safe side 2) explore the connections between your son and your cousin 3) think about any transformations or changes that your son is currently experiencing--how is he changing--what part of his life could be dying or transforming--he's 4 so he is changing a lot--daily! right?..but what part of his changing reminds you of your cousin?..that could be a clue--to pay attention to the changes/transformations that your son is going through--what is he leaving behind/putting to rest...maybe he's growing out of some childish ways?..and growing up? Are you concerned or sad about that?

Or it could be about the male child in you--what part of you is changing--is being put to rest--finished with...

Good Luck:)

Your subconscious (and I am not a doc.) is remembering how awful you felt about your loss --it was horrible for you --and you think sometimes probably without even knowing it how devastating it would be to ever loose your son--a walk in life that any parent having done can tell you is life changing--so it is entering your dream pattern and it will pass in time I am sure--the fear of anything happening to our kids is horrible-- I worry about my grown kids and the two at home not to mention but I will the grand kids too--

I had a dream like this once about my nephew many years ago when he was a small child, he's 17 now. It was a very disturbing dream. I think you just love him so much that you had a nightmare about such a horrible thing happening.
It's just a dream, he will be fine.

You probably felt very close to your cousin and loved him very much, maybe almost as your own son. Or perhaps it caused you a great deal of thinking/worrying for your cousins poor parents and the ordeal they were going through.

How horrifying, that sounds so creepy. It could mean several things. That you are worried that your son may end up like your cousin or perhaps you are for seeing the future. I drempt once that my mother died and not long after that it happened. I was devastated and felt really guity. I hope it is just your worrying. Please don't tell your wife about this.

It sounds like you tranferred some grief, possibly and you are obcessing on it, perhaps. This is not uncommon at all, but no one can tell you here what exactly is going on. You might try a Licensed Professional Counselor to help you with this. I think you would be glad you did.

Most of us benefit from a bit of help like that at times.

Wish you well!
