im thing of going into the military to be trained as a mp but im a little scared of going in. i don't know if i want to do this but it would be good for my police training and they will pay and set up a program for me to work from while im going thru basic training and college. the recruiter told me that there might be a chance that will get deployed after i finish schooling and training. what should i do?

It's a great experience and one that you will remember forever.
I wouldn't change a thing and I've been at this for 21 years.
Have you considered the Army/Air National Guard? You can get the same training and still work on your civilian career.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES JOIN THE MILITARY FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING. Your chances of being deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, or any number of places that would be even less appealing are about 100%. Sounds to me like the recruiter is snowing you. Once you sign the papers you do what the military tells you, and you most certainly will NOT be working while you're going through basic training. The only thing you'll be doing is going through basic training. Once you're done with that, they'll send you to the Security Forces Academy (or equivalent) and all you will do while you're there is train. After that, you'll go back home if you sign up for the Guard or Reserve, or if you're active duty you'll go to whatever base they assign you to and you'll probably work 12-hour-shifts. Not much opportunity to go to college. BOTTOM LINE: If you go into the military to be trained as Military Police, they'll train you then they'll tell you to get on a plane to the sandbox. Don't do it.

Its up to you, in the Air Force its not a MP it is (SF) Security Forces. As a Airman you'll get **** on quit a bit cause as you will hear more than you want to **** rolls down hill. If you have your heart set on being a Cop then go for it. Its good training and whhen you hit NCO you can become a dog handler, which wouldn't be to bad. You most likely will be deployed, most of the ones I know Go about once a year. So you will have to used to that.
Yes the guard and reserve deploy just as much as the Active AF do.

More than likely...I am an MP commissioned officer in the National Guard and I was deployed...most MP's are and most of the missions going on in Iraq are MP missions. We are sending and infanty unit soon who is going to be filling a mission normally set for MP's. Plus, when you get your MP training...it doesn't focus on Law and Order operations...that is a different school. Army MP training is oriented toward combat ops.

I would say that there is a 100% chance that you will be deployed somewhere. MPs are like cooks----they can go anywhere there are military personnel. The military would be excellent training for you, but do not expect MP duty to be easy or safe. MPs face the same dangers and challenges that civilian police face. Be absolutely sure about your decision.

I don't know which branch you're considering. Your id says Air Force. If you are planning to join the air force, be aware that air force security forces spend lots of time guarding airplanes and air bases (gate guards, door guards, entry control points, etc). They handle law enforcement as well, but I feel you should know that you'll spend some of your time standing at a post somewhere. I would imagine that it is the same for any branch, though.
I can almost guarantee you'll get deployed as an mp. Military cops are in high demand everywhere. They are also short-handed everywhere. They are always "borrowing" my troops and making them security augmentees.
Active Duty Air Force--16 years.

I was in the National Guard. I was activated for a year of active duty, and with what is going on if Iraq and Afghanistan there is a very good likelyhood that you would be activated and deployed. You might look into the USCG, US Navy, or US Air Force.

If you go into the Military, be it the Reserves, the Guard or Active Duty expect to get deployed. With the current situation, you will probably end up in Iraq or Afghanistan. But that is to be expected. Remember, you are going into an outfit who's primary purpose is to capture or kill the enemy. If you don't think you can do that then don't go in.

Hey, guess what? If you go MP, you will be deployed. I am an MP, and they want MP's in iraq/afghanistan. And also, how do you plan to do anything but train while in basic? It wont happen, i dont know who lied to you. But if you go MP, be prepared for the desert.

The opportunities that you will get by joining are tremendous. They do pay for your college training while you are in and when you get out. More than likely you will get deployed. But, this goes for all soldiers no matter what their MOS is. I know it can be a little scary what with the war that is going on. Just remember this is your future. Good Luck! Our prayers are with you.
