I've read that doctors recommend that you should not limit your calories to any less than 1,200 calories each day. When your body recieves too little calories, it starts to automatically hold the new calories coming in as fat. Your body will store this fat because it thinks that it is in "startvation" mode.
Anything below 1,200 will make your metabolism sluggish and although you might find yourself losing weight initially, once you start eating "normal" size meals, you will actually find yourself gaining weight faster than if you'd just ate a little more each day to start with.
You can limit the amount of calories you eat by taking in a wide varieties of food. Your body can't live on just vegetables or just fatty foods. Your body needs a balance of both. It's wise to incorporate fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, grains, and light dairy products. You can also help keep calories down by eating a salad before you eat your meal and drinking water throughout the day. Both will make you feel full and you'll be less likely to eat as many calories.
It is also helpful to eat proteins, such as eggs or lean meat. I have heard that you can increase your energy levels by increasing your protein intake.
I cannot remember which magazine had the article, but I read somewhere that 3,500 calories is equal to 1 pound. I also read that if you simply cut 500 calories from your meal regimine (whatever you are currently eating) each day, that you'll automatically lose 1 pound each week without "trying." Sounds promising...I think that I need to try my own advice, lol :)
I hope that this helps! :)
PS:
I've noticed that something that helps me to lose weight easier is to drink a cup of coffee each day. It helps me to feel full and curbs my appetite. This is especially helpful if you are a soda drinker--1 cup of coffee satiates the pallette, whereas soda you can't seem to get enough!

It has to be a balanced diet, you cannot just eat fruits and vegetables worth 1000 calories per day. There has to be some protein, some carbs, some fats, etc... In order to maintain energy throughout the day on less calories, you need to make sure that you're eating protein and fiber rich foods, since they take longer to break down, you will stay fuller on these types of foods longer. Protein would be most meats (lean meats are better), and in terms of fiber, any whole grain or while wheat product is good, (stay away from white flour products though because they're low on fiber, high on bad carbs, and you will gain weight on them while feeling hungry sooner. Also, drink plenty of water to give your body the feeling of fullness.

The lowest a person should go it 1200 calories anything under than is burning muscle tissue and it is not healthy besides you would have no energy.
You can have a healthy breakfast that consist of about 300-400 calories
Am snack of 100-150 calories
Lunch of aobut 250-300 calories
Pm snack 100-150 calories
Dinner of 300-400 calories
It all depends on how you build your meals, your body weight and age.
Everyone has different needs.
Vegetables, fruits, protein, good carbs, water, vitamins, poultry, fish, almonds, grains, wheat.

You need at least 1200-1500 calories a day---to lose weight. Lower your calorie intake will make it worse and your body will not give up it's stored fat because it thinks you are starving it. You have to eat to lose weight. Just eat the right things. Protein, vegetable, carbs and fruit. In that order. You cannot live on vegetables or fruit alone.

1000 is only really safe for a woman. for a man you should try 1200. anything lower than that is going to make your metabolism go into starvation mode and it will slow to a stop. trust me, I've starved myself before. it isn't worth it.
for 1000-1200 you should cut out sugary beverages and meat except for lean chicken. keep breads to a minimum and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. don't forget skim milk, eggs (only 70 calories) both good for protein. celery and carrots are basically negative calories. coffee and tea are both calorie free water alternatives. don't drink diet soda--it will make you hungrier. if you feel exhausted consider going up to 1500 calories and doing 20 minutes of regular cardio exercise. good luck.

First, 1000 calorie diets are bad, so you shouldn't try to keep it. Secondly, fruits have a high caloric count since they have so much sugar, be it natural or processed. Try to eat small portions and lean meats. If you eat only fruits and veggies, you will be missing out on all of your protein, and that can cause your muscles to break down. Or, if you are trying to cut out meat altogether, eat tofu.

It's easy to hit 1000 calories...I'd say it's not even healthy. Most fruits would contain too many carb calories. It'd be a lot of roughage, veggies, little meat, some fish

Eating so few calories will actually sabotage your long-term weight-loss goals. Your body will sense the intense calorie restriction as famine, and will slow your metabolism to keep you from starving.
That means you'll have to eat even less and less to keep losing weight and keep the weight off, making it hard to get enough nutrition without gaining weight again.
The site below has links to help you calculate the amount of calories you should consume for safer weight loss.

1000 calories is not sufficient for proper nutrition, unless you are a child or near death, or just trying to survive in Russia under the new Hitler, Mr. Putin.
Get doctor's advice---I think average human needs at least 1500 calories a day.
