It may seem silly to conserve water since there seems to be an abundance of it, and it is renewable. But there are very high economic costs to processing the water to make it drinkable. The more water wasted, higher the costs, higher your taxes.

well, do you like to live and eat? Maybe that's a good reason to start. Ultimately we rely on water for many basic biological functions either directly or indirectly. Agriculture often relies on irrigation, and large cities can be a huge drain on water resources. There are two main sources of water- aboveground water flows and groundwater. both are very important, and both are being depleted. You are asking how above-ground water is being depleted? Glaciers. And they are melting. Often the melting of glaciers provides water at critical times in the year and are important in maintaining a steady baseflow ( along with water from wetlands). No more glaciers means we lose some valuable water resources. That's when countries have to start importing water from other countries...

As demand for mains water increases, more infrastructure like dams, desalination plants, treatment plants, waste water plants, mains pipes, pumps, sewage pipes, reservoirs, treatment chemicals etc is required. As land and energy in particular is expensive, so therefore are dams and desalination plants. It should also be noted that increased electricity production requires more water for cooling towers (power plants are usually significant water users). This infrastructure is usually funded in two ways - through Government investment (your taxes) and/or private investment (your water bill or rates bill).
Also, many places around the world are affected by regular droughts such as the long drought currently affecting Australia's three largest cities. Under those conditions, prolonging the water supply has required mandatory water usage restrictions to be put into place.

in earth among 100%of water 97.41% belong to ocean water which is salty and not safe to drink we have only 2.59 % of freshwater. but among the freshwater 1.984%are belong to glaciers and ice caps and 0.592 %of ground water and only 0.014%of readily available fresh water. in order to have enough water for the comming generation water conservation is must and should be a part of life so save every drops of water

Because there is not enough potable water in the world on which to survive forever.
What's more important? A green front yard or life itself?
