Is it true that storing certain fruits together quicken the deterioration rate? ...like apples next to peaches make peaches rot. I heard some friuits omit a gas.

Yes, this is true.
However, it can be used to your advantage when your avacados are still hard and you want to use them.
Put them in a paper bag with an apple and they will ripen in only a day or two.

Yes, some fruits do emit a gas called ethylene which other fruits, flowers, and veggies can be sensitive to. If you are going to eat the fruit within two or three days, it can be attractive to put it in a bowl on your table or somewhere where it looks nice. If you need to store it a bit longer than that, keep it in the refrigerator in separate bags, and wash it when you are going to use it. Bananas should not really be kept in the fridge, though.
