why do people feel the need to point out grammar and spelling to others on here ...
if you can read the question , what does it matter if it isnt punctuated correctly
have you ever thought that some people may have learning difficulties ...
and if they do then they are brave to come to such a forum
guys give it a rest either answer or dont ... dont point out peoples flaws , that is so childish

Pangel, they do that when they run out of other arguments and insults.
As a teacher, even if only a science teacher, I have a pet peeve about spelling and grammar, I admit. I try to keep it off of Answers because I realize that for some people on here English is not their native language. Some are very young kids (I know because some of the students here have shared being on Yahoo Answers too) and they are trying to "sound" like they are sophisticated and grown up.
Others are older and may not have had experience typing on a keyboard or using a computer. They may have trouble seeing.
Do you remember before Christmas there was an older lady on here and she typed and talked funny. Some people were nice to her and some just made rude and nasty comments. Well, that lady was my grandma. And she is one of the smartest people I have ever known.
She put my mom and aunts through college selling eggs and truck garden vegetables. She was not able to go to school past 8th grade, but she got her GED when she was 60.
She won't be back here because she thinks its a waste of time...in her words, don't cast pearls before swine.
So thanks Pangel for saying this. And to the rest, whether you are Christian or not, remember that not everyone on here has the abilities that others have. Give them a break.

English is my second language, and learning it is something I like to do, I think the more languages one knows, the better! If I'm making a mistake in my spelling or pronunciation or whatever, and someone points it out to me, I'm grateful. People go to school to learn, getting a lesson for free should be a plus! Of course, if the correction is followed by an insulting remark then it's hurtful, and uncalled for, but if people are so proud that they can't learn anything from someone else then in a short time we'll all be as ignorant as cavemen, grunting in each other's face.
Hey, if you get the grunt's general gist, that's ok.
Grammar is important, often reading messages on here is impossible because people are such bad spellers that they develop their own idiom. That's called being an idiot, to speak differently from everyone else, so that nobody knows what you're saying. A slip of the hand on the keyboard needs no pedantic correction, but as a rule when someone is correcting your spelling they are doing you a favour: they avoid you repeating the same mistake in another situation, when it might really matter, like an exam or a love letter to a person who will think you're a total muppet if you can't even spell. So, let's be a bit less proud here!

Perhaps if you make the reader more easier to read you'll have less of a problem. I can't tell you how many questions I skip because the context is so off I have no idea wtf they are saying. However if I can make sense of it I try my best to dignify it. Really minor spelling and punctuation is no big deal.
I think people show lack of intelligence by attacking if someone misspells one word even though the context is there. You get the point. The question still has value if it didn't you wouldn't waste time on it. But, if they completely butcher their sentence structure wtf do they expect?
If people write 5 paragraphs all rolled into one with no sentence structure I usually assume the person to be hasty and uneducated and only read part of what they wrote why?
How hard is it to really learn where to put periods and commas? If you can't do that I can't imagine how you even began to write essays in high school given people make it that far.
If they have a learning difficulty than perhaps they should take more time learning. I wouldn't skim over the drivers manual and just jump in a car. Perhaps if they are not ready to ask a question they are not ready for an answer.
Same applies if you are from another country pick up a book and learn like we all had too. No one said life was fair.
If you simply can't learn because of a disability good luck. I can usually detect rationality in a question by arranging the pieces but, we simply find it to be courteous to have the questioner arrange for us as we would for them.
We don't question the motives of why someone misspells we just question the misspelling.
P.S. Is this a spiritual or religious question?

What a lot of answers! A spell checker is a very important part of Q&A, it's free and not to use it shows your ignorance.
A comma or dash in the wrong place, what the hell. I never went to private school, and was always in the D classes, hated school and all the teachers, spent more time outside the headmasters office than he did inside. I left school at fifteen in 1955, and learned more in the year after I left, that in my entire school days. I went to work.!!!! Worked ever since, self employed, so none of your eight hour days.
What bugs me is what I saw the other day on Q&A
"WHAT DO YOU FINK, I FINK THAT".
If your that stupid I wouldn't never answer you, how ever much I wanted to.
When I was building an extention on a job, long ago. A young lad of four used to be with me all the time. Every time he asked a question and I would say "yeer" he would say "not yeer, say yes" I has stuck with me ever since, and I thank him for correcting me.

Some people make so many errors in spelling and punctuation, that their questions are difficult to understand. Correcting someone's grammar is not being petty.
Some may have issues with learning disabilities or English as a second language.
However,
it seems that many people are either unlearned or lazy by the way they write their questions.

Some people get so riled up about grammar, it is unbelievable sometimes. No, it doesn't matter and no, it's not university challenge. We don't all come on here trying to be clever, some of us just want to find out an answer. Don't worry about it, people are too pedantic!
Rykkers-there should be AN apostrophe in don't! lol ; )
Michele-if the question is not underSTOOD
lol, just pointing out the facts!! (I'm not serious)
Oh, and I remember someone going on about grammatical errors and he went on to say SENTANCE! It made me laugh because he was being so condescending and went on to make a few grammatical errors himself! Just thought of another one!
''Why do all Canadians have total disrespect for the English language!! They will persist in spelling color as coloUr!'' That made me chuckle seeing as the English spell it colour. P.S I think alot of people think you mean pretty.

Spelling mistakes don't bother me...and I leave them alone unless it leaves open a good joke.
What does bother me is the inability of so many here to be able to phrase a question intelligently. Yes, I know some are not native english speakers, but, those are fairly easily recognized. It's those who seemingly have no knowledge of how to structure or parse a sentence that bring embarassment to this site and to themselves.

Grammar errors are acceptable, but spelling? Come on spell check is right there in the upper right hand corner. Why do you think it takes guts to answer questions? I don't know who you are what do you care what I or anyone else thinks of you?

I don't think there is any point pointing out minor typo's, but text talk and lazy abbreviations really annoy me. The English Language is a great and wondrous thing, and lazy people are belittling it. That should be pointed out.
