That all depends on what made you choose the boxer over the german shepherd.

Both are fantastic dogs, if bought from a reputable breeder who breeds for betterment of the breed, health, temperment and overall quality. Be very particular about the breeder you get your puppy from. Both parents should be screened medically and have a sound temperment. The breeder should be more than willing to expose you to the parents for inspection.

Boxers and German Shepherds make great pets and excellent guard dogs. The boxer has endless engery and don't really get out of the puppy hood stage till about 5 yrs of age. From the Boxers I've been exposed to have all been very patient and eager to be around children, allowing them to stick their fingers in their ears, take the bone from their mouth, and climb on their back for a pony ride, all with the little nubby of a tail wagging and that notoriouse tounge gently caressing the childs face (note, these dogs were very socialized and always supervised by an adult - NO CHILD SHOULD BE LEFT UNSUPERVISED WITH ANY DOG NO MATTER WHAT BREED OR DOG, its not worth the worst case senario or that mistake ).

German Shepherds are a really beauty to look at. Through my expierence they are incredibly intellegent and love to work and please their masters. They are devote protectors through thick and thin. However I've come to know many shepherds (probably through bad breeding) have aggression issues, become unpredicable, and have an aray of medical issues (what dog doesn't righ?) well the more popular the dog is, the more irrisponsible and unknowledgable people breed these dogs for a quick buck, and have no idea what damage they are actually doing to the breed.

I too would have chosen the Boxer over the Shepherd only because of my lifestyle, I have a little child, other pets and based on my prev. experiences with the breed. The Shepherd wouldn't fit into my lifestyle and what I want in a dog right now.

So consider your lifestyle, research your breederes or rescues, what you intend for the dog, how much time and effort you can put into the dogs socialization, training and loving time. Both of these dog have great potential to be the most wonderful pet, however you hold the end result of having a suitable dog as the end result.

I wish you the best.

Whether you get a Boxer or a German Shepherd Dog is up to you. There is no correct answer.

I would choose a German Shepherd rather than a Boxer but that is just my personal preference - nothing wrong with Boxers.

You will get loads of answers extolling the virtues of one breed over another but the choice is yours - you will have the dog for about 12 years so choose what you like.

Don't ever choose a dog by it's breed alone.
Research the general temperament of the breed by all means, but the decision should be on the look of the animal, with the temperament that breed is known for.
Finally, think of when the dog (or *****) is full grown.
Will it mean that the dog will need a LOT of exercise?
Will it be too large for you to cope with?
A friend of mine has a Boxer that is actually bigger than a GSD by quite a long way.

Please remember that the choice you make involves more than just your choice. It affects YOUR life and that of your family, not to mention the life of the dog you get!

Think long and hard about what you want from a dog. Then think about what you can provide for your dog. Then think about the impact having a dog will have. Then think about what your dog can bring to YOUR life.

When you've thought about all of this, think some more. Then YOU decide. Don't let complete strangers decide this for you as it is too important a decision!

Depends completely on you. Boxers don't need as much space as a Shepherd but they need way more exercise. Plus you've got more chances or injuries in a Boxer because they're not intelligent enough to go round the fence like a Shepherd, they go through it. Best example of a Shepherd my vet ever gave me.

correct for what? Get whatever you like the most. I think people think that german shepherds are vicious but any I know are really loving and friendly, they are beautiful dogs. I also like boxers, I don't think there is much of a difference.

Only you can make that call. My suggestion would be to go to a local dog show and look at the dogs in the show rings. It will help give you a good idea of what you are getting. Next and most important is to talk to some of the breeders/handlers at the show. They can give you a lot of information about the breeds characteristics, good and bad. You can also check the AKC website as it has a lot of information about the breeds you are interested in. You should also look into what the breed was bred for as it will give you an indication as to how much maintenance the dog will require (i.e., exercise, grooming, etc.) The individual breed websites will also talk about genetic issues you need to be aware of. Another good source of information would be your local vet. Both are great breeds. Good luck with which ever one you choose.

Shepherd> Intelligent, easy to train, moults a lot, dont need a lot of exercise, gentle, loyal to family, can be aloof with strangers, needs firm handling. Can be noisy but rarely chew things.
Boxer> Not as intelligent, can be difficult to train, moults as much, needs lots of exercise, can be boisterous, great family pet, loves everyone, needs good handling. Slobbers a lot and loves to chew.and very slow to mature.
I prefer the Shepherd, for many reasons but I have had a Boxer in the past.
It all depends on your circumstances, experience and which breed appeals more.
Good luck whichever you go for.

Boxers are awesome. They are very loving and gentle. Great with kids. Downside is that you have to keep them inside. They can't handle the weather. They also shed a lot, which makes for a messy house.

German shepherds are good work dogs. Very obedient and smart, but not a good inside pet in my opinion. They stink and they chew on things.

Yes, boxers are generally better-tempered than German Shepherds, and they tend to suffer less hip and knee problems when they get older. German Shepherds are prone to hip displasia. So if you don't want to a) see your dog suffer and/or b) pay the thousands of dollars for operations to ease the suffering somewhat, get a boxer.
