Suppose a gun man puts a gun to your head, and asks you this simple yet compound question - "Do you believe in God"? and gives you 10 seconds to answer before he pulls the trigger, would you be able to say yes?

Yes.

Yes, because God would give me the grace to say yes! Plus, the gun man couldn't take my life because I'd still be alive if he shot me just without my body.

I would say yes, because I already do believe in God, not because there was a gun to my head.

from wikipedia:

about the columbine shooting:

In the months following the shooting, considerable attention was focused on Cassie Bernall, who was reported to have been asked "Do you believe in God?" by one of the shooters, and to have responded "Yes" before being killed. However, Valeen Schnurr claims that this exchange was with her, and Emily Wyant, the only living witness to Bernall's death, confirms that Bernall did not have this discussion. Both Bernall and Rachel Scott were regarded as Christian martyrs by many. The official investigation attributed the statement to survivor Valeen Schnurr.[30] Despite this conclusion, student witness Joshua Lapp maintains that it was Cassie Bernall who was asked about her beliefs and responded 'yes' before being shot, although Lapp was unable to correctly point out the table or location where Bernall was located and was himself closer to Schnurr during the shootings. Another witness, Craig Scott, whose sister Rachel Scott was also portrayed as a Christian martyr, claimed that the discussion was with Cassie Bernall, but when asked to point to where he heard the conversation coming from, pointed to where Schnurr was shot.

god bless

oh - absolutely yes - by the grace of God.

If I answered "no" I would be lying.

I would say no because that is what I know to be fact. In the scenario you describe I would have a 50-50 chance of not being shot. You do not say which is the answer the gunman is looking for.

Well, he phrased it, "Do you believe in God now?!"

Yeah, I've been in that literal situation before. And in the adrenaline rush of the moment, I reached up, corrected his aim (his aim would have caused severe damage to the right side of my cheek and jaw but not killed -- I wanted to make sure I didn't live to need months of reconstructive surgery). My response was not yes or no... it was, "I refuse to believe in any god weak enough to be contained in a bullet."

Thankfully, that answer confused him so much he walked away. I shudder to think what he'd have done if I had said yes and he decided that he was going to save me by sending me to heven by killing me after confessing my sudden new-found faith, or killing me if I said no for being an atheist.

All I would need in one second to say "Yes."

Oh, and what is the "compound" part of the question?

No.

Curiously enough, this has actually happened.

"According to Time magazine, what the gunman does next is remarkable. He aims his gun at one of Ms. Rogers' students in the corner and asks, "Do you believe in God?" By doing this, the gunman recreates a scene from the shootings at Columbine. At Columbine the student answered, "Yes" to this question and was shot to death. At Red Lake the student answers, "No." The gunman spares that student's life and starts shooting other students. [ref]"

I'd hope to be able to but who knows what I'd do if I were actually in that situation.

Remember Peter denying Christ 3 times? Stress can break you down.
