When we talk about shades we are talking about how light or dark a color is. A shade is made by adding black to a color. You can buy a beige color, or mix it yourself. There would be an infinitesimal amount of shades if you consider beige can lean toward different hues (colors). Depending on what color it has most of, red or yellow, and base color- (usually a small amount of blue added to neutralize it and make the beige color), and how much black was added, you can get a different effect each time. It will most likely be a very subtle difference, though- I hope this helps.

There is only one shade of beige, there are many shades similar to beige but only one actual shade.

It wouldn't be a shade of beige, at least in my understanding. It would be a "shade of" brown or even yellow.

As to how many, research "color wheel," "color mixing," etc.

Won't you prefer "a whiter shade of pale" (Procol Harum) ?
