We were parked next to a hydrent but clearly 6 feet away. The ticket was for parking within 6 feet of a hydrent. We took photos and plan on disputing the ticket. Anyone have any experience?

NYC law is 15 feet, front and back. had the same problem myself a couple of years ago. just pay the $100 or whatever it is and learn from it.

...but..."If you decide to fight the ticket, make sure you take the steps that are mostly likely to help you win. We have found the following five strategies invaluable for successfully fighting a parking ticket.

I. Examine the ticket carefully. All parking tickets should include the following 12 items:

License plate number.

Plate type (passenger/commercial).

Registration date (mm/dd/yy).

Make and model of vehicle.

Body type (e.g. sedan, station wagon)

State of registration.

Description of vehicle.

Description of the violation.

Date of the violation.

Time of violation (including AM or PM).

Place (should be specific enough to describe only one location).

Signature of agent issuing ticket.

If any of these items are missing, incomplete or incorrect, the parking ticket is likely to be easily dismissed."

Taking photos is a great start. When was the ticket issued. My fiancee got a ticket for tints on his car, because the ticket showed that it was of a legal color, he was able to plea not guilty. Regardless of what Top Brass says, there is a quota of the amount of tickets cops need to write. Closer to the end of the month, more tickets are being issued.

unless you accumulate a lot it's really hard to do. If you get a lot like I used to -CDB- then you send a lawyer to PVB and negotiate the price down for the whole lot of them.
For a single ticket the question is simple :is the cost of the ticket worth all the time and money you are going to spend a only a slim chance of beating it ?

Did you measure the distance with a tape measure ? Before you moved your car?

The police do when it's to close to make a decision by a visual.

I called a friend that is a policeman when I saw your question.
