Most states do charge a probation fee. The amount varies by state. In most cases, this fee is not paid directly to the officer, but is mailed in to a central office, and helps to fund the probation agency. At least that is how it is in my state, and the fee is $25/month.

It depends on the crime that landed you on probation. But, you are not paying the PO, you are paying the county. Part of what you pay is the fee for being on probation. That is how they offset the cost the county incurs employing people to monitor those on probation. You will also pay any restitution to the county itself through the probation department.

Very interesting... I didn't know you had to pay off your probation officer. A further question I'd want to know is if this bribe to remain free can be made in the form of crack, weed, or meth... I suspect that may be easier to cough up...

If you are paying a fee its for restitution for something you did. But the state is paying the PO's. salary.
