most secular artists always thank Jesus in the "thanks you" parts of their Cd's. why? they aren't Christians, and their CD's are full of sex and swearing. and they definitely don't magnify the lord in their daily lifestyles. why do they always say" if it wasn't for you Lord, i wouldn't have made it throught this year, it was really tough, thank you so much". it drives me crazy. i think they do it just for show, not because they really mean it, what do you think?

First of all you do have a right to "Judge" that they are NOT Christians because of their works. It is very clear that the word Christian means "Christlike" and if their lifestyle has no reflection of that, then you are not judging them, just stating the facts. The reason they do this is because they have enough sense to recognize that there is a God and feel the need to thank him, even though they may not be living the "Christian" life. It's as simple as that.

How do you know their not Christians, or are they not Christians only to your definition of what comprises a Christian? If the artist has some venial connection to God or Jesus and wishes to publicly thank Him for the prosperity and gifts they have, the what's the problem? It's a beautiful thing....something that if more people did on a regular basis (not only with gratitude towards God but towards each other) would make the world a better place.
Now, objections to the content of the work or one's daily habits is another story. And I'm sure you do things that aren't exactly Christian either....much like this question.

What is wrong with sex and swearing? You wouldn't be here today if it weren't for sex, and swearing is used throughout the world as an expression of disgust. I haven't seen the world end on account of four-letter words. Maybe some hurt feelings, but on the scale of cosmic harm, definitely below the threshold of say, a cluster bomb or napalm. As a matter of fact, Jesus was a product of sex outside of marriage (there is no mention of Mary getting married to god), and he is also know to have cursed: Mark 11:12 - 14, he curses a fig tree good for not bearing fruit. Now that's a mouth a sailor would turn pale at! So to make a long story short, they are no more hypocritical than me, you, or Jesus

It might be for show, for some.
But for others its not about the music, and how exactly do you know they aren't religious, or that they don't praise the lord in their daily life? How do you know that they haven't found God?
Don't pre-judge based on a persons career. Its just not right. They could be the most devout Christians and chose to swear and use sex to sell their music. It doesn't matter.

Only God knows the heart of a person. What's wrong with being thankful? Maybe some of them do it for show but if they are acknowledging God there is hope for them becoming Christians if they in fact are not. Sounds like they've had good upbringing. Some advice? Be careful of saying some one isn't a Christian. We aren't qualified to do that only God is. We are each responsible for our own behavior.

And who should judge their intensions? Who says they are not Christians? I realize a lot of secular songs contain lyrics that some Christians may be offended by, but that does not give anyone the right to judge the artists.

Technically in order to be a Christian you only have to believe in Jesus Christ. If they do that they are indeed Christians. Unfurtunately they don't have the same standards as you do, hence your question. One of the reasons they do it is to increase the appeal to other Christians to market their music. It's show biz, many artists do things they don't meanfor the the show because unfurtunately it's their image.

That is your definition of a Christian. You do not know whether or not these people are Christians and what they do behind closed doors, so as a Christian, to judge them like you are doing is wrong according to the bible. And to some of us, God is not concerned about trivial things like bad language, He is more concerned about how you treat your fellow man, which he created just like He created you. Judgement is for God, not for you.

Put as simply as I can, this can be called practical atheism. A person gives lip service to God, but does not do service for Him. It goes on all the time. Every time someone claims to be Christian but acts otherwise. Whether God has saved them or not we cannot say. We can only tell by their fruit they bear. Take care.

They don't have to be Christian to be thanking Jesus, let alone believing in him.
But they don't always write their own songs, their lyric writers (for example) write most of their songs and could have thought/think that it would be a nice touch and/or something that fits in with the song.
