Its a form of authority...to demonstrate street justice to allow people to see something horrific to keep people in line. This works because when called to court on this...the cops lie in a united front and a cops opinion carrys more weight in court...until someone brings out the video tape.

It is really sad to see how many people see and comment when they don't, in my opinion, have a complete understanding. People, there is no question in my mind that there are bad cops. They are far and few! What you see on television can be sensationalized just so the producers make their money! Do you think for a moment that if all they showed were meter maids writing parking tickets....you'd watch?
So you understand from an officers point of view...I have NO CLUE who you are when we first meet. I will be polite, courteous, helpful....I could go on....but when you have done something wrong like rob a store...I have to assume you are armed and dangerous. I have a family too, and want to go home at the end of my shift....therefore...I am going to assure my own safety! How many on here have parents who are in law enforcement? Want to see that supervisor or chief walk to your front door and tell you "Mom/Dad isn't coming home anymore."??
Maybe this will help you somewhat....Police are like fish in an aqaurium. In that aquarium is a thin pipe where just the "mudfish" swim. We spend MOST of our time in that "mudpipe." Occasionally, we have to come OUT of that mudpipe where the majority of the GOOD fish swim. We're so used to dealing with just "mudfish" that often we are on a higher stage of "alert" that makes the GOOD fish feel like we're being mean to them. It's not that....it's just...we want to go home too!

not squishing heads for the sake of squishing heads, although some people do benefit from having their heads squished- as a matter of fact some folks require a regular diet of having their heads squished to keep them on the right track. some folks just don't take verbal commands very well and have to be "assisted" to the ground in a caring and loving manner by the police.what you have seen are just police officers using love and compassion as tools for those folks who just can't seem to do it on their own.

They crush head on TV to make the show fun to watch. If a cop did that in real life before the suspect attacked the cop, then there would be a large law suit for the cops to deal with because it is completely illegal, and unconstitutional.

It is called controlling a situation. If a suspect has the knowledge that he is unable to get away, he is much less likely to try to get away, therefore making the whole situation safer for all involved.
Sure seem to be a lot here who have problems with authority...better get used to it kiddies, that's life. Follow the rules and stay out of trouble. Don't and get what you get...time to grow up.

It makes them feel in control? You bet your a** they had better be in control. It's called controlling the situation. If the suspect on the ground doesn't want his neck pinned, he should have thought about leading a cleaner, more law abiding life. If they want to be treated civilly they can always give up crime. So quit whining already! The choice is all theirs.

has it ever occured to you that police officers get damn tired of "punks"? You go out in their boots for a day, deal with the abuse they must take and, after awhile, tell me you wouldn't restrain some creep anyway you could.

It makes them feel in control, all big and bad. Did you see the episode of America's Most Wanted about the Collar Bomber? They had their guns on him while he was cuffed, and still had them on him after the bomb blew up. Was a bomb squad even called?
