Firstly we have an absolutely hyperactive kitten-about 7 months old. She is lovely at night though. Anyway, sometimes she will come up to us and either attack us playfully or just cuddle up. However, she will then start to lick us obsessively. It's lovely, but I have never known a cat that has licked humans so much. She wasn't brought up with a mother cat. Could this have something to do with it? Other wise she's fine and lovely :-)

my little cat is exactly the same, i thought it was wierd first of all, but some cats are just very loving. if you have handle them a lot when they are young then they tend to be cuddly friendly cats.
just enjoy it, they get more loving as they get older and settle into their ways.

In my experience, some cats are just "lickers." I have a 14 year old cat that LOVES to lick me and whoever else is in my aprtment. When he was younger, he was also obsessed with licking an afghan my grandmother crocheted me. I'm not sure if this has anything whatsoever to do with it, but the cats I have dealt with who lick are males the majority of the time. My 14 year old licks more aggressively and purrs loudly when he does it if I come in after being gone for awhile, like wen I'm at work.

I raised my kitten nearly since birth, when she was around 3 weeks some horrid people decided they didnt want her so she was going to be ran over. A friend luckily saved her but couldn't keep her, as soon as i saw her i knew she was going to be my little "baby" and since then I have showered her with love and kisses which she now will wake me up at 3 in the morning for her "kisses," even while playing it will turn into a lickfest and after we have our dinners she'll start cleaning me up licking from head to toe. So i think it has something to do with being raised by a step-momma.

Licking is how a cat grooms. It is a cat's nature to show affection by grooming other cats. Your cat is showing you a great deal of affection. The fact that your cat was not raised by a mother cat, your cat will always show greater affection to it's humans than other cats would.

I think we have the same cat! Ha ha. My male kitten of about the same age did this from the moment I brought him home from the shelter too. God is it annoying! Ive slowly gotten him to stop doing this by giving him a quick puff of air in his face, and then the instant he stops petting and loving him. If he persists, I give him three times your out, and shove him off my lap. Its been a few months of doing this and hes gotten the idea of it pretty well. Every now and then he forgets and trys it again, but im right on top of him with the puff of air in his face and he remembers again not to do it. Good luck.

Our cat loves to climb up and lick ears(he really goes mad)...he purrs really loud too until his purr gets all squeaky! And he has never ever got his claws out when doing it ..a real gentle ball of fluff.I think you simply have an affectionate cat.

My cat is exactly the same way. I would thoght he was raised by dogs. As for being hyper. I am sure she'll grow out of being hyper. But my cat did grow up with his mom so I think she just like to lick. OR maybe she licks because she like the salt taste from our skin... I know that's why horses like to like poeples palm... animals are weird like that.

All cats are different. Supposedly cats can't drool but my Dad's cat drools by the bucket load. So much in fact that they re-named him Slimer. Obviously this is just something she likes doing. Maybe it's the soap you use or something? Just leave her to it if it's not causing any problems. You never know, she may well grow out of it anyway.
