I am looking to purchase and new dog soon and I have been looking at Labs, Beagles, Weimareners, and American Dingos. I just want a medium-big sized dog that will be a good companion and a moderate shedder. But I also want a dog that will go catch a frisbee if I throw it. Any good ideas?

border collie
Shetland sheepdog
Australian shepherd
collie
golden retriever
lab

border collies are known for there agility and fly ball skills so they would probably make a good dog for Frisbee too. but they are a lot of energy and always need to be working. Australian shepherds are the same way but a little less maintenance. Shetland sheep dogs are great too they are a little smaller but are very loving. my cousin has one and if a burglar came in he'd probably help it carry off the TV. it always wants to please you. most of the dogs I've mentioned are a lot of work and always want to be with you so please make sure that you have enough time and space for another life to take care of. please adopt from your local animal shelter too.
good luck!!!

Border Collies and are good dogs for this, but they have a HIGH energy level and require lots of time, attention and training to accomodate their needs. If getting out with the dog for several hours a day for a frisbee run is going to be the daily routine, then these breeds would suit you well.

We are working on training our BC puppy for frisbee right now.. so fun! But we're also persuing other dog sports such as agility. Got to give them that mental stimulation!

Most dogs will enjoy chasing a frisbee, even if they are small ones. The dogs you listed would probably be willing to chase a frisbee, it depends on the personality of the dog.

I don't know if you are strictly looking for a purebred dog, but I'm positive there are plently of shelter dogs that would love the chance to catch a frisbee for an owner.

I have a 7 yr old yellow lab, and his favorite toy out of all the toys he has ever received, is his trusty ol' frisbee. Granted, labs can get pretty big, mine weighs about 120 lbs., and he is NOT over weight, just a big guy. The shedding can be controlled by making sure you take a brush to him every other day or so.

i think it all depends on the preference your dog has.

i have a 3 yr old, 17 lb, boston terrier that is absolutely crazy about a frisbee. she will catch and retrieve it with the best of them for hours at a time.

even if we go to the dog park and do not bring her frisbee, she's been known to improvise with rubbermaid container lids or whatever else remotely resembles a frisbee...lol.

Be cautious of doing anything acrobatic with labs and goldens, because they are bigger dogs and it puts a lot of stress on their knees. Its much easier then you would think for a dog to tear its ACL, and that will cost you at least $2k per knee to fix properly, along with 6mos. recovery period with strictly limited activity.

border collies and aussies are the most agile hands down, and they are lighter so the risk of this sort of injury is less.
