My boyfriend got a puppy about a month ago. She is healthy and vibraqnt in all ways but at times her head will tremor a bit and she'll loose her balance and fall over. Last night was the first time she was on the ground and her head shook. It was as if she was having a problem lifting it. After her "Spell" she seems to not have any problems going along and playing. Her vet did take blood and everyting came back fine, and the vet did change her diet to a lower protein food. For a day or so it seemed she was getting better, now it seems the head tremors are worsening. Does anytone have any idea what causes this?

Thank you everyone.. He has already spoken to the breeder and she said she has never heard anything of the sort from any of her dogs..... I hope this is nothing too serious, but an MRI alone will cost at least $1000.00...

If your vet can't seem to figure this out, I would suggest going to another vet for a second opinion and take any tests already done with you.

Definitely sounds like seizures. Call the vet back and let him or her know what is going on now. If you don't like the answer he or she give you, get a second or third opinion. Also, make sure there are no toxins (pesticides, fertilizer, weed killer, etc.) anywhere that she could be getting into.
My dog is 6 1/2 years old and had is first seizure a few months ago. We had gone for a walk earlier that evening and believe he may have gotten some kind of pesticide or fertilizer on his feet from someone's yard and then licked his feet later on and that is probably what caused his seizure.
Hope the puppy turns out to be okay.

It sounds like a seizure of some sort. Is she drooling a lot afterwards? Any loss of bowel or bladder control during the incident? These are both common symptoms of seizures. I would take her back to your vet or find another, especially since the tremors are worsening. Poor thing :(
Did you get her from a breeder? If so, you should contact them and inform them of the possible neurological problem.
You should also crate her when left home alone or unattended to prevent her from harming herself if she should have an incident.

PLEASE PLEASE SEE A VET for a MRI.
Im sorry to say but though this may turn out to be nothing (which I pray it will) your dog really should have some kind of scan to see if her brain is ok as this to me sounds like a problem in the brain which of course the vet will not be able to tell by looking.
Is your dog insured? could you get her insured under a diffierent name to the one you have registered at the vets, I know this is a bad thing to say but if the dog has been seen at the vets before for a certain condition when you get insurance here in the Uk that condition isn't covered. (dunno if that made any sense sorry)
Back to the problem has your vet checked THE EARS?
EARS can cause a dog to behave like this. My sister's cavalier collapsed one day and the vet was puzzled and thought he'd had a stroke, then he did it again not happy My sister went to another vet and he found that her dog had a INNER EAR infection so deep that it was hard to see though the vet can sometimes tell by looking at the size of the ear canal with that ear thing at the vets (Sorry can't rem what it's called), Maybe mention this to your vet? have you tried to look in the ear to see if it looks waxy on the surface?
My dog kaytee has this problem now :( but she collapsed once then went parayelsed down one side of her face.
Im taking her to a specialist vet next week for a xray, As ears dont show up on MRI unfortunatly.
Well I hope to have helped.
GOODLUCK I will light a candle and send good wished to your little baby lets hope its all ok.

I'm not sure, but I had a pomeranian who would have trouble lifting his head and would seem to be having some sort of seizure and he would whine whenever he would move his head. It turns out his spine and skull weren't completely connected and the bone was rubbing againts his brain stem causing swelling. One false move and he would've severed it and died. I don't know if yours is that serious, but it just goes to show you it could be anything. Maybe you should get a second opinion from another vet.

Head tremors can be a sign of low glucose. Try feeding extra "mini" meals. My Boxer had this happen at the same time each morning. I started feeding her 1//2c kibble just before bedtime and the tremors went away. Reducing the protien may have made the situation worse.

Like was said before sounds neurological. It could be seizures it could be swelling in the brain, menigitis, myelitis, who knows. I'd actually suggest going to a neurologist. Depending on where you live depends on how far you'd have to drive. I use to work for one in chicago. I'd look it up online or ask your vet where one is located so you can get a referral.

It sounds to me like, she's having bad seizures. There is a possibility that it's Epilepsy. I would find another vet, and have her re-examined, ASAP. I hope everything works out for the best, I feel so sorry for her, poor littlle girl!

I'd get a second opinion from another vet. It sounds neurological and could be a seizure.
Where did you get the puppy from?

Tell him to get a hold of the breeder and tell them this is going on.This is not normal behavior and they may be able to get him another dog or compensate him on her....
