I've had a pretty bad cold for about 5 days now, and I've heard that you're supposed to feed a cold, starve a fever. Some say it's the other way around, but whatever. Anyway, so I think I've been eating about my normal amount, but I've lost about 3 pounds. I wanted to lose some weight anyways, but I think it's probably not good for me to lose it while I'm sick. And I haven't really gotten hungry like I usually do. What's the deal?

If you can't smell (stuffy nose) you can't taste. (Seriously. Try holding your nose sometime when you're not sick - you can't taste anything!) So, food probably isn't appealing to you for that reason. Eat if you feel like it, but don't sweat it if you're not into it. Make sure you drink lots of fluids though.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of liquids. Don't count milk, it's considered solid food, and don't count anything with caffine in it. You should drink 6-8 8oz glasses a day. Starve the fever unless it's high. When your body is fighting against the cold, your body temp will go up. Feed the cold means that if you need relief, use OTC meds. My doc prefers that we not see him for a cold unless it lasts longer than 2 weeks. Get plenty of rest and stay warm!
