“It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. Mrs. Dubose won all ninety-eight pounds of her. According to her views, she died beholden to nothing and nobody. She was the bravest person I ever knew" .

Mrs. Dubose is a cranky old lady that the kids have to read to. She suffers from an addiction to prescription morphine. She makes a decision to stop using it because she knows she will die soon and and didn't want to die knowing that she had no control over her addiction. She knew even though the pain and the withdrawal symptoms would be terrible she stuck it out. when she did die she was free of the addiction and that made her brave.

You know you are not going to succeed, but you do something anyway due to principal and beliefs... For example, you know you are going to not pass a test, because you didn't study, and you have the offer to get the answers from Yahoo questions, but you take the bad grade anyway- that way your conscience is clear!!! LOL.... It means that you do it despite the odds and do it for yourself and no one else!!! Look up to Kill a Mockingbird or get Cliff's Notes or check that website... It helps a lot!!!

Bravery is not the sole possesion of the winner. Bravery is sometimes fighting because it is the right thing to do, even when you know you are not going to win. To stand on your own against overwhelming odds, to have the confidence in yourself that you will not back down, that is bravery.

it's kind of the opposite of "if you can't win, don't play" philosophy, and is telling you you to try anyway, even if the odds are against you. even if the odds are a million to one, there is still that one, and you may just happen upon that one in the first few tries, being a million to one does not mean you have to wait for the millionth try to have a chance, heck, you could win the first two or even three times out, and it just means thd odds are against you afte that.

It means that you never give up in spite of the odds against you, because sometimes miracles happen and you succeed. You are not afraid of anybody and you are not afraid to loose. You are your own person and no on can scare you off.

True bravery is not in winning but in doing something and seeing it through. Even if you are small, even if you lose, you are brave.
