My 10 year old daughter has been sleepwalking for about 5 years now and I am really concerned. I have asked two doctors who have said that she will eventually grow out of it. She does it at least twice a week and has no recaletion the next day. Sometimes she will talk nonsense and one time she freaked me out by laughing hysterically. I am so scared that she is going to injure herself or go outside that I let her sleep with me sometimes. This is also a problem because she wants to go on sleepovers at friends houses but one time she went into a girls parents bedroom and didn't remember! The other time at a Girl Scouts sleepover in a musseum she woke up on the other side of the building with a different troop and didn't even know how she got there. I don't know what to do please help if you have any ideas or you have had a child outgrow this!

I forgot to add she is a healthy, smart well adjusted child and normal in every other way.

my son is almost 14 and he does the same, he will actually carry on a conversation with me and not remember a thing! I worry too, I've found him in the silverware drawer one night so now all sharp utinsels are put up where hopefully he won't find them in his sleep. Basically to make sure he does not go out side I have put slide locks at the very top of the door where he can't reach and a bell on the door to ring to alert me. My son wont sleep with his door shut at night, but if your daughter will put a large bell or something that will make a noise on it to alert you and her. If you find a better way - post it for me!!!

My daughter was a sleep walker with night terrors. OMG! I hated dealing with that one.

They do (most times) grow out of it.

I would allow her to go to sleep overs but I would warn people about her tendency to sleepwalk.

Other than that you really have very little or no control over this situation.

She make sure that she stays happy and well adjusted and she will outgrow it just fine.

I used to sleepwalk when I was little. I walked down the stairs, opened the front door, and sat on the steps once! She will probably grow out of it but my dad made a little bar that can be lifted or put down before the stairs so I won't fall down. Or try putting her in your room and then lock the door so she can't get out, then put a bell on the door so you know when she's going out. Seems a little inhumanly, but my parents did it and it worked!

I agree with vernita, i have a night terror/sleepwalker as well.

One thing i've learned, shut off EVERYTHING when she sleeps. No tv, no lights (u can leave a door cracked or something, no nightlights). Stimulation can trigger 'episodes' , it causes them to 'half wake up'. Doing this has greatly reduced my daughters problem.
