I was given an Asian Sony stereo system but unfortunately all the radio frequencies are outside those of the UK, except for radio 2. Can I get someone to modify it so that it can pick them up? I have bought in the past the dab radio add on from Dixons/ Currys but the stereo doesn't have the right socket in the back for it.

Yes, what you need is an 18MHz converter. These are usually made for car stereos but if you are looking to use a home stereo, you could modify it to work with it. Here's an example of one:

To use it, just add 18MHz to the frequency your Japanese radio displays, like 84.7 + 18 = 102.7 is the station you're really tuned to with the converter hooked up. Of course this will only work with analogue broadcasts and not DAB.
