Probably your best option at an educated guess would be from your vet. Tho no one will be able to say for sure either way.

You can guess by the appearance of the dog but it doesn't mean you'll be right. And your accuracy will be determined somewhat by your knowledge of breeds. If you get a dog from a humane society, they'll tend to categorize dogs into something saleable - like labs and collies and not shepherds or rotts.
If you can find someone who is very knowledgeable about AKC breeds, that can be helpful. Things like knowing how common a particular dog breed is can help narrow down whether your dog is likely to have that breed in it's ancestory.

You might have to ask the vet. the next time you have him in. Sometimes it is hard to tell by looking at the dog (depending on how many breeds are in the blood line.)

You can ask the person you got him from. However if the mom and dad are mixed breeds they might not know the exact breeds either. But if they know the breeds of the mom and dad they are going to be your best bet.

GOOD LUCK!

Basically it is anyones guess. Mine has been guessed to be a whippet x husky, a whippet x boxer, a whippet x boxer x husky, a whippet x hound and a whippet x staffie.

After looking at pics at all of the above dogs online (several pics of each mix), we determined she is mostly whippet x staffie.

If you are REALLY curious to know, you can also go to the AKC website and look at their breeds. Check out typical markings, snout, body structure, etc. Usually you can determine a main breed with others mixed in.

HOWEVER I know a lady in our apartment who has done a ton of research and still can't figure out what her dog is. All she can say is it is terripoo mixed with something else and probably something else.

If you add a picture link here, some of the dog people may be able to give you a hand in finding out the main breed characteristics in your dog.

its a mutt....

if you dont know the parentage its all just guess work - a groomer or vet might make a more educated guess.. but its still a guess...
both parents might themselves be mutts, your dog could have 6-7 breeds of dog in it...

you could ask the person you got it from what the mom was.. but unless she was a registered dog you wont really be sure.
