You'll be fine! I had the same thing done at 30. No, you won't ever have a period again. If your ovaries are in good working order you shouldn't have early menopause. Leaving the ovaries is going to help keep you from doing that. You can return to work as soon as you and your doctor feel it is time. I took off 2 weeks and was restricted to only lifting things weighing less than 10 pounds for another 4 weeks (recovery time varies by person). Listen to your body--if you feel like crap, stay home! If you feel fine, go to work. If you get tired, take a break! Honestly, the only thing negative that I've had happen since my surgery is a decline in sex drive. It's not enough to worry me, or my husband. Good luck--hope this surgery solves the problem you were having. Mine was because of several factors, but left me with a clean bill of health and the chance to continue living for a good long time.

My mom had the same surgery at about the same age. Some side effects that she had was a lot a facial hair but it was very soft and not noticable except up close. Do not remove it until it starts growing in course or through electrolysis. She still had PMS but that faded with time, and is now going through menopause (she is 57). They are leaving your ovaries to help keep your hormones stabilized and to make menopause happen naturally instead of forcing it which is healthier for you. You will no longer have your period, but for several months after my mom had the cramping which is normal but that faded as well. It is just your body adjusting to the changes in your body. As for recovery time, each person is different. Four to six weeks is the normal time, but if you and your doctor feel that it is ok, you can be released back to work sooner. It sounds like there will not be an incision which means that recovery time could be quicker. Good luck.

I am 31 and had an abdominal hysterectomy in July. I work a desk job and was off 2 weeks. You will not have a period again. If they are leaving your ovaries you should not go into menopause early.

Hysterectomy, in the way you are describing (which is called 'incomplete') means removal of the uterus.
That means that you wont have a period again (period means the flushing out of endometrium, which is formed in the uterus). Since they are leaving your ovaries, you will retain a normal level of estrogens, meaning that you wont go into menopause, and you wont have to take hormones.
Since they will be doing the operation via 'natural' ways (vaginal), your recovery should be very fast compared to the traditional (abdominal) method (for which recovery is about 6-8 weeks). You should be relatively back to normal within 1-2 weeks, depending on how fast your system recovers.

With ovaries present you will not go into menopause now. Vaginal hysterectomies are rare in young women with no relaxation of pelvic muscles, but recovery should be fast. I would guess two weeks, but do not quote me.

You will have a Drs. order when you can return to work.I had mine 9 years ago, and let me say--Take everything easy and slow.Take care of yourself,so you heal. You will not have to worry about a period anymore. You may go into early menopause, that will be determined by your body and the Dr.Don't get worked up about pain the day of the surgery they will make you comfortable.Just take it easy and go slow, you are young and you have a nice long life ahead of you....
