It's a natural decongestant. It helps break up phlegm. It's also very high in vitamin c. Finally, it temporarily increases your metabolism. All of these are good when you have a cold or every day for that matter.

When I have fever (or feel like a fever is coming), my yoga teacher taught me to put a pinch of cayenne pepper under my tongue and let it stay there. The spiciness of the pepper permeates my throat, nose, and gives me warmth. I feel relieved, and the the onset of fever is prevented.

I don't really know the medicinal benefits,unless you eat a lot and have a runny nose---it will clear it up.My grand-Mother never ate anything but red or white pepper, she was Native American and claimed that black pepper never digests and will stick in your guts---So I never eat it only cayenne & white they are great......
