what should i do if i found out that my bf has been telling ppl he is single and messing around with other girls (not physically though) and having conversations with them as if they were his girlfriend? what would be the fair way to deal with the situation?

Confront him about it. You obviously care about him so wouldn't want to dump him as this would make you miserable. Just cook him a meal/take him out somewhere (so he sees that he owes you his honesty) and tell him that it's upsetting you and you need a bit more commitment from him

Be direct. But don't be confrontational. Seek answers. But don't look for revenge. Stay open-minded(hard as it may be). Don't shoot to kill. have you been 100%? Have you up-ended anyone's way of life? Have you subjected anyone to terse encounters? Does the male have adbandonment issues? If he does, did you know prior to asking? Is he keeping you at a distance(aside from his chatting w/females?). Have you engaged in subterfuge, entrapment?
