If you are looking for a do-it-yourself whitener, the Crest Whitestrips Premium work really well. Also, they are clear so it allows you to do other things while the strips are on. However, you could choose to go the more expensive route and see your dentist -he/she would be able to use more of a professional whitener.

The best and easiest way is to see your dentist for a cleaning. They can remove the stains caused from the coffee and smoking. Then the rest is up to your home care in keeping the stains off. Quitting smoking was the best thing you could do to eliminate the staining process. Once you get the stains removed, it will be a lot easier to keep them off! Using a soft toothbrush and whitening toothpaste can do wonders alone.
If you want the hollywood white, then talk to the dentist about home bleaching. He/she will suggest either strips, or they can make you custom bleaching trays and give you a solution to use.
The custom trays ususally takes a few minutes to a couple of hours a day for about two weeks to reach your desired results. Most patients I've found love this type of whitening. It allows them to "touch up" by bleaching whenever they feel their teeth are getting stained again. The average cost of this is around $200-400. It's the method of bleaching I've used for over 15 years now.
They also have a one hour system that the dentist does in his office, it's quiet expensive though, somewhere around the $600-$700 area. Some dentist don't use it or recomend it due to the sensitivity it causes. It usually last for a couple of years and requires touch up with bleaching pens and mouthwashes which are expensive too.
So, it's really up to you and how much you want to spend to get those "pearly" whites. I would check around on the prices in your area. But the key question is, are you willing to maintain it, with regular appointments with your dentist and diligent home care? Talk to your dentist, they can answer all of your questions. Good luck!

I just recently bought the Crest Premium White Strips from my dentist. I have been using them for about 2 weeks now and I have seen a huge difference. They are supposed to be like 16 times more powerful than the Crest White Strips you can buy in the stores. I would recommend them since I have used them.

Crest Whitening strips along with whitening toothpaste and whitening mouthwash. Careful not to use whitening products for long periods of time, due to they may cause some bleeding, tenderness or sensitivity.

use whiting toothpaste it works slowley or any of those new products out will work. but for quicker results go to the dentist and have him give you the whiting trays that take a week, do not do the one visit whiting (zoom) it is bad for your teeth. I know this because my husband is a dentist and he will not let me whiten my teeth.
