My son has to sit a school entrance exam on 20th Jan. He is already beside himself with anxiety. Anyone recommend any homeopathic remedies we could give him? He is a bright boy, just can't work out that if he doesn't panic he'll be able to do all the questions in the time allotted. Love him!

P.S. I would love for him not to have to sit any exams but that is not the way of our world. One day he has to earn a decent living so he has to go through this. No schools in our area are non-selective.

You can take him through a relaxation technique on the morning before he leaves for school if he is up for it...it's a bit querky, but it works!

Tell him to close his eyes and imagine he is in a dream place (beach, desert island),get him to tense every muscle in his body and relax. Then you literally work from the toes up by first tensing the toes again and relaxing them, tense the ankles and relax them, tense the legs and relax them etc until he has done the whole body. He could even go through this process before his exam. Good luck to your son with the exam and I think it's great that you are such a supportive mum.

Is this the first time your son has exhibited such anxiety? And do you think it rates high enough for remedies, I mean, every person gets stressed now and again, especially at the thought of a new school, the best thing to do is ride it through in small doses. It itself is a survival tecnique, reliance on any other substance apart from adrenaline, which will get him through, is to override our ability to grow stronger through the exercising of mental muscles - he'll get such a natural buzz when it's all over. Let him experience that too? If it is not practical in this case to go with this, then along with parsley, is thyme, rosemary, a fresh tea, steeped for ten mins. To help him sleep the night before, and in the morning of the exam. Hope this helps. All the best.

Stress of this level is wrong for an 11 year old. It sounds as if you are pushing him too much, he may well be bright but if he is having to sit an entrance exam for a smart school then the pressure once there to achieve will be horrendous. There will always be someone brighter, quicker and even richer in those schools.... let him enjoy his education instead of looking for remedies to relieve his anxiety...the answer is simple...back off

dont fill your son with remedies!!!!! What is all that about.... he is 11!!!!!!! Eleven years old - why is your son so stressed at 11???. talk to him. What is the importance of these exams. Support him.
Where has all this presure come from??
Dont give him pills - talk to him !!!!!
Get him to go out with some friends, run around let off steam play football and enjoy doing whatever it is he likes doing. Pills are not the way to happiness. Show your son how simple and free happiness can be!!!

There is a homeopathic tincture called Rescue Remedy that might be helpful. I would suggest a visit to a health food store, they should be able to further assist you.

You ca try Ginkgo Biloba or St John's wort since there mild pills when I give them to friends I tell them because there so mild you should take 2 at once, then I'll ask them how they felt and they say things like wow my head was clear. I tell them that's how I feel when I'm on Prozacs but I need some thing stronger than Ginkgo although I take Ginkgo when I can't afford my meds. Also tell him when he feels he's starting to get anxious sit back for a few seconds and relax calm down and take a few deep breath I find I'm able to do more when I sit back take a breather and tell myself to calm down, one step at a time.

Tell him the info is all in his head already--that there's no need to worry.. When exam time comes...if he relaxes, it'll all pour out of his brain and he'll do fine.

P.S. Apparently Romans ate PARSLEY as a natural tranquillizer.

I had this same problem when I was younger. The Doctor told my parents to give me a vitamin like b-12 or something else like that. Tell him that it is going to calm him down and with him thinking that it is going to help him it usually will.

Good luck.

maybe some breathing techniques to practise and and also to do when he gets that anxious feeling? you need to get a grip of this now or he'll be worse in a few years when bigger exams crop up. good luck both of you!
