i just got a pitbull puppy in december. the puppy is now 4 months old. when i first got her she ate 3 times a day no problem at all. as soon as i put the food down it was gone is seconds. now last week out of the blue she didnt want to eat lunch. which is weird because she would eat as soon as u gave her food. well for the past week i have tried everything to make her eat and she wont. she will be her bone treats or any other dog treats but when i put the bowl of food down she sniffs it but wont eat. i have tried mixing dry food with wet, or just giving her straight wet food, or i even put human gravy on her food and she just licked the gray off, never ate the food. i even tired crushing bones in her food and she will pick out the bone pieces and eat it. What is wrong with my dog? she in the past week has prolly eatin maybe a cup all put together. she is still very energetic. loves to play all the time, isn't that sleepy doesnt seem sick. her nose is cold and wet all the time.

Contrary to popular belief sometimes dogs are not all that hungry. The best thing to do at this point is eliminate treats altogether as they are no substitute for food and she might be waiting for the treats instead of the food. Dog's can get bored with the same food all the time so it is important that you buy the best food money can buy for your dog. Especially at the puppy stage. Out of all the supermarket brands I usually buy Purina One but I usually buy at the ranch feed store. My guess is that you are indoctrinating the dog with treats way too early. Treats are for adult dogs and mostly used for training and good behavior. Ultimately it is important to keep your dog tested for worms and other parasites by finding a good veterinarian that you trust to diagnose any health issues that may come up.

You are doing the right thing, feeding her three times a day, and it sounds like you've tried just about everything. Once she turns a year old, you can switch to two times a day. Suddenly not eating though, is a sign that something is going on, and no one can determine what it is except a veterinarian. If she's gone a week, and only eaten a cup of food the whole time, then you really need to take her to the vet and have her examined. Good Luck

At her age she needs to be on a puppy chow until she is at least 18 months. I have always given my dogs purina puppy chow until that age and then transferred over to purina dog chow. Also at this age you can give the dry puppy chow and put the amount in her bowl required on the package for a days worth and leave it. This way she can eat on it when she is hungry throughout the day. She should not be getting snacks or doggy treats yet. She does need plenty of chew toys since she is cutting teeth and will want to chew on everything. As long as she appears healthy and playful I wouldn't worry about her. Be sure to keep her a bowl of daily fresh water out for her too. A tsp. of vinegar in her water will help keep fleas away also.

Ask your dogs vet? Perhaps she/he needs a different type of dog food. Try Iam's it's high in quality, and it s there for puppys as well. Cause puppy's need all the enzimes, vitamines , and proteins for proper healthy bone growth. I would either ask a employee in a pet store or a vet. Sometimes, dogs as they get older need only twice a day feeding. Perhaps your bit pull is just telling you I only need to feedings please! Good luck. I am a dog lover and I try many things with my and always get great results.

She's training you, don't put treats in etc.. Put the food down-pick it up in 15-20 minutes. If she doesn't eat-she doesn't eat. Don't leave the bowl down. Eventually she will eat when she is hungry and will realize that she had better eat the food when its available..
Water should always be available. If this continues for more than few days or she becomes lethargic or dehydrated, make an appointment with your vet.

id try a different brand of dog food. but when changing food go mix it together for a week and see if she eats it all. maybe the old food is upsetting her stomach. maybe your feeding her the wrong life cycle food(some food is specialy made for younger dogs.) if all else fails take her to the vet.

a healthy dog won't starve itself. it sounds like she is just being picky since she is behaving normally and eating treats etc. putting gravy on the food might work, but then she will expect it every time. you could always try a different kibble to see if she likes that better. you could also give her time to eat her food (say 20 minutes or so) if she doesn't eat it in that time, too bad, she has to wait till her next meal. she won't starve herself. if you notice any change in weight or behavior though, i'd contact your vet!

you should feed your puppy twice a day, once in the morning and once again in the late afternoon..he/she is being over fed, and not hungry that is why..lol the amount that you feed each feeding depends on the weight of the pup...should be on the back of a dog food bag, if not ask your vet
