I just got four spacers in the roof of my mouth and will go back in 2 weeks to get the braces on the top. It didn't bother me the first day or two, but now on day 4, I can't chew anything!! Will this last until they take them out?? I knew to expect this when I finally get the braces on but it's just the spacers. Thanks!

Hello
I wear braces and believe i feel your pain. The spacers would usually hurt for like a week more less. After that you will get used to them and probably play with them. Lol
But if they really hurt alot more take Advil or something to lessen the pain, it wont take the pain at once tho. If i took the pain you can do it too be strong i know its annoying.

Peace

Spacers may make your mouth a little sore if they are placed correctly. After a couple of days your teeth should have moved enough to make you feel like the teeth are loose. That only means they are doing their job in creating a space. Stick to soft food and try not to do a lot of chewing, it only increases the irritation that the spacers are causing. Also maintain your regular brushing, but don't floss the spacer area.

If you are having some serious pain, now that's a different question all together. Sometimes the spacers get placed too far under the tissue or food has become impacted there causing sore gums and sometimes even becoming infected. Take Advil or Tylenol as your doctor prescribed for the pain, but also take a look at your gums. If there is bleeding when you brush or the tissue looks really inflamed, then you may want to call the orthodontist and let them know. They can always take a look to make sure of the placement and may even speed up your ortho placement if your teeth have shifted quicker than expected.

It does get easier so don't become frustrated so soon. Just keep thinking about the end result, and what beautiful teeth you are going to have when it's all over! Good luck!

Normally, they will just make you sore for a day or 2 unless those teeth are really tight together. Just keep taking some ibuprofen or Tylenol, it should get better.

I remember the spacers being the worse part of my braces. I was sore for 2-3 days.

The front teeth are the worst. Those K9's!!

It will lessen in about a week in the meantime start popping your favorite OTC pain killer. You'll need a big Costco size bottle to get through teeth straightening as an adult.
