Generosity means giving without the expectation of receiving. If you expect something in return, you are missing the point. If someone calls you a dummy for being generous, they are not generous, and probably don't deserve generosity because they do not comprehend the concept of gratitude.

Generosity is not about receiving; those who think it is are only displaying their greed.

Absolutely not. It's your money or whatever you are giving; time, work, food etc. As long as YOU believe in the cause and you are not going without your needs I think it's fine to give.

Just keep it sane and reasonable. If any organization or person nags you to give more than you can you may want to reconsider your generosity.

I think that sometimes I may have been Scamed. But, in my Heart I know I did what I felt was right, to help others. So, I figure the one who scamed is the true dummy as they lie to themselves. Anyone can be a Thief, it not hard, not have to be smart. But, being honest and caring is not easy and requires intelligence.

Being generous is a marvelous quality--Look at the genorosity of the Almighty!
Did we really need to see in color or 3d to live?
Did we really need all those taste buds, to eat?
Did we really need for our ears to hear in stereo to be able to hear?
Did we really need all the varieties of food to live?

--As you see the list of questions could go on forever.

The Benevolent and all-generous God is the epitome of graciousness, as Jesus always represented him.
--If we want to be like the True God, and his Son we must indeed practice, appreaciative giving--meaning where we know to some degree it will not be taken for granted! Sometimes that is very hard to determine.

Jesus stated this about freely giving of ourselves without expectation of reward or what-ever:

(Luke 6:38) “38 Practice giving, and people will give to YOU. They will pour into YOUR laps a fine measure, pressed down, shaken together and overflowing. For with the measure that YOU are measuring out, they will measure out to YOU in return.””

--We never know what act of generosity God will bestow on us when we are free in our genorosity, and even maybe by people, Jesus did caution that 'if we give with one hand do not look at the other'--in a sense to get something in return.
--The world is a world of horders, keep what-ever they have and being stingy in giving, for the most part--so we might apply this "hope in everthing & expect nothing"--godly hope is a jewel, where expecting can be a pain.

If we practice it properly, please note not only are we trying to be like Christ, but even more importantly, like God:
(Ephesians 5:1-2) “5 Therefore, become imitators of God, as beloved children, 2 and go on walking in love, just as the Christ also loved YOU and delivered himself up for YOU as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling odor.”

Note a partial breakdown of this great quality:
*** it-1 p. 918 Generosity ***

GENEROSITY

That noble and warmhearted readiness to bless others by freely giving out of an open hand, unstintingly. The Hebrew word na·dhiv´, rendered “generous” in Isaiah 32:8, is also rendered “willing” and ‘noble.’ (Ps 51:12; Nu 21:18, ftn) The Greek noun ha·plo´tes (“generosity” [2Co 8:2; 9:11]; “liberality” [Ro 12:8]; “sincerity” [Eph 6:5]) has the basic meaning “simplicity.” (2Co 11:3, Int) Jehovah himself is the personification of generosity, the One who fully supplies all the needs of his obedient creatures “according to his will.” (1Jo 5:14; Php 4:19) Every good gift and perfect present is from him, including such an intangible gift as wisdom.—Jas 1:5, 17.

Moses urged his fellow Israelites to cultivate this divine quality of generosity, even when making a loan on pledge. “You must not harden your heart or be closefisted toward your poor brother. For you should generously open your hand to him . . . You should by all means give to him, and your heart should not be stingy in your giving to him . . . That is why I am commanding you, saying, ‘You should generously open up your hand to your afflicted and poor brother in your land.’”—De 15:7-11.
Says the proverb: “The generous soul [literally, the soul with a blessing gift] will itself be made fat [prosperous], and the one freely watering others will himself also be freely watered.” (Pr 11:25) Jesus Christ expressed it this way: “There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving.” (Ac 20:35) Again he said: “Practice giving, and people will give to you. They will pour into your laps a fine measure, pressed down, shaken together and overflowing. For with the measure that you are measuring out, they will measure out to you in return.”—Lu 6:38.

No, your are not being a dummy, otherwise God would be a dummy--Just be reasonable and selective as to who and how far you will go with it, , without being stingy!--It takes experience to follow our great Maker in this beauty of quality.
