Hi all, he's turning 19 months. It has happened twice now where he wakes up and cries uncontrollably for no reason. He used to wake up in a good mood all the time. Could this be the start of the "temper tantrum" stage?

Could be the beginning of an illness, could be the tantrums or it could be seperation anxieties where he wants you to be there the moment he opens his eyes and when your not he panics. My son was infamous for this, he is now 19 months old and would wake up screaming a few months ago, man does that ever scare the jesus out of you, waking up to a bloody murder scream, I would take off in there and as soon as he would see me it was like everything was ok. But then there were the "i dont feel good" cries where I would go in to get him and he would just be like whiney and fussy and down, and the whining wouldnt stop when I picked him up, I would have to go down stairs and sit on the couch with him and rub his back and talk to him someitmes for up to 45minutes before he would calm down. Good Luck, just when you think you understand them they go and throw a curveball!!

I dont think its that, at around 18months some children begin to experience nightmares. They're becoming more knowing about things at this age and can just get disorientated when they wake up. My son went through the same thing just give him plenty of cuddles and reasurance, maybe a night light would help. This stage will pass!

it may well be completely widespread, yet i'd make an appointment with a pediatrician, he desires to be evaluated. toddler's would have tantrums, and seize their breath, yet eyes rolling back isn't some thing I truly have considered or study so be on the secure aspect and make contact which includes your Pediatrician.

My daughter is doing the same thing...it's awful! And, yes I do think your son is getting to the "terrible 2's" and then on to the "smart mouth 3's". I'm going thru the same thing...remember that it's only a phrase and we will survive!!!

He could have had a bad dream. Or maybe he could just be grouchy in the mornings. Not for sure. You might just have to wait and see.Good Luck!
