I agree, he thinks he brought you a gift. Praise him, tell him " that's a good boy" seems silly but it'll make him happy. Years ago when we had an out-door cat, he would do the same, he'd come running up the stairs with a sparrow in his mouth, I wasn't very happy but that's their instinct, the only way to make you proud of him. Tey to discourage him, how? don't really know but don't be angry with him.

Cats, historically, entered into their partnership with people because they kept the mice away from the grain. He shows you his "prizes" to tell you that he is a good hunter and still worth his keep.
Alternately, when my sister and brother in law were overloaded with work, and not feeling well, their cats would be hunting double-time, as if working to bring food home to their tired humans.

lol He is giving you a gift for being a good owner!!! i rember we had a cat and it brought home a litle field mouse we told him off and the next day there was a huge rat on our doorstep! it was like he thought he had not done good enough with the small mouse so he got us a rat! just ignore it for the moment dont scold him or praise him if he is showing you his gift but if it becomes a problem ask your vet?

You are lucky it was only a mouse...
I live in the bush... two months ago... I was woken up in the middle of night by a crunching sound.
My cat was under my bed... eating a rabbit!

I have a formerly-outdoor cat who is indoors now. Whenever i do laundry and leave the folded laundry out she brings me rolls of socks! And once she dragged a full-sized bath towel halfway up the stairs.

The cat see's you as a peer or loved one, therefore this is what he/she would do for another cat.

This is his way of thanking you-it's a good thing, believe it or not. It's his only way of giving you a "gift".

It's like a child, they do something they're proud of and they want to show you and want you to be proud of them too!
