I just bought a 12 inch jbl bazooka, what is the best direction to install it? Should I put it sideways or it doesn't matter?

i had 64 chevy with 8 unpowered bazooka 12's dynomat the chit out of the inside of your trunk and position them 3 inches away from fender of car "front facing side of car" make sure sound is not hitting carpet! take a 15x15 piece of plywood or whatever you want to use and make it to where the actual speaker hits that wood. remember exactly 3 inches!!! bazookas run off bass reflectivity it is not just a fancy box for a speaker.www.myspace.com/jimmycody

Not really gonna matter because it is base. The closer (but not touching) the output is to a seat back or truck wall the more base.
Highly recommend putting sound blanket material on inside or trunk to keep the base in and the rattles to a minimum.
