Yes, Great question! I was reading the Bible one day and came upon this verse:
Jeremiah 31:3
The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
I then understood that what I was or what sins had been committed by me had no bearing on the love God had for me and that God had a plan and a reason for my life. Had I been God looking for an elgible candidate, I would have passed me by. But God was different, very different.

What surprised me the most in the bible was the inadvertent or unintentional honesty of Jeremiah 8:10-12.
> "From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain;
> prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit. They
> dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious.
> "Peace, peace," they say, when there is no peace. Are they
> ashamed of their loathsome conduct? No, they have no shame
> at all; they do not even know how to blush."
It is such an accurate description of religious people in general, eg. Chicken George Bush, Pat Robberbaron, Jerky Falwell, pope Nazinger, etc.

When I was married to my first husband I had a feeling he was cheating on me and wasn't sure what to do. I started praying about it and asked God to show me what to do. After praying, I picked up my bible to read it and I opened right to the verse that talks about God allowing divorce to a person with an unfaithful spouse! Imagine that, no lie, it's true! Needless to say, that was enough of an answer for me, I divorced him not long after!!!

I would not say that these scriptures suprised me the "most" but they did suprise me.
Isaiah 40:22, i suprised me to take note that the Bible had recorded the earth was round and not flat as man had long suspected.
Job 26:7 where God said the world was hanging upon nothing.
Sure it seems pretty simple to us, but 2,000 years ago man thought completely differently.

Leviticus11:20 All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.
I never knew there were four legged birds before. I do agree that I would be hesitant to eat one.

It would have to be 1 Samuel 18:27
Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.
Or how about this one:
2 Kings 6:29
So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.
or this one, maybe:
Hosea 13:16
Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

The one about God telling Ezekiel to cook his food with human excrement-that image of God doesn't square with the compassionate deity portrayed in the new testament.
