I have a 11 months old girl and my son will be 3 in march. they both wake up around 5 - 5:30 AM. My sone goes to sleep anywhere from 7:30 - 8:00PM and sleeps throught the night. I've tried letting him stay up to 10:00pm and he still wakes up at the same time. He doesn't usualy nap anymore during the day unless we go for a car ride then he falls asleep right away in the car. But that doesn't help either. For my daughter, i've tried to leep her up passed 8:00pm but she's soooo tired so she usualy goes down around 7:30 - 8:00pm and she sleeps through the niight too. But 5:30am is way to early tfor them to be getting up.
How can I get them to sleep longer?

That's around ten hours of sleep...pretty good for nighttime. As someone said, push back the bedtime about 15 minutes for a week, then try again...but it will take a while. And look at what's happening. When my early riser had her bedroom moved to the basement, she slept an extra hour because the sunrise wasn't in her window.

But you might just have to get used to it. Don't worry, by ten years old you'll be asking for how to get them up earlier. I'd suggest you go to bed earlier so that you feel better getting up that early!

embrace the early morning and the fact that they are routine kids and not waking you up 3 -4 times a night. my sister's girls are 2 and 4 and still don't sleep well at night. usually she ends up sleeping in bed with the 4 year old and often dad has to hold the 2 year old to go to sleep. YIKES!

anyway....embrace the morning! i get up around 5:30 each day, but that's b/c i work f/t. i am in bed every night around 10 and that is good sleep for me. my husband and i make sure that all evening chores are done by 8pm b/c that's usually when the baby goes to bed. then, we have 2 horus to drink a glass of wine and play a game or just watch some TV, scrapbook or whatever floats our boats!
the nice thing is that on the weekends we each take a morning to get up early, b/c the baby and the dog don't understand it's saturday! i get to sleep in sat and hubby gets sun.
it gives us something to look forward too. like "one more day til i can sleep in on saturday!!!".

so, don't forget how nice a brisk walk in the morning can be. how nice it would be for the chores to be done by noon! how nice it can be to sit and read a book while the kids are playing or eating breakfast. oh, and the Today show is pretty good:)

so, embrace it and make the most of it!

take care:)

Push back bedtime by 10-15 minutes per week until they are on a better schedule.

Also check and see just whar happens at 5:30...is there light coming in or a neighbor starting a car to go to work. If a gradual later bedtime doesn't help...then omething else might be triggering them to wake up.

My 14mth old daughter is just the same, she wants to go to sleep at 7:30pm and wake up around 5:30 or 6am. I cant keep her up much later or she is grouchy, and even if I do she still wakes up at the same time, she just sleeps less! I think we have to just deal with it...

I think your lucky my sister was babysitting my kids and she would have them sleep all day so she could sleep now I'm having a difficult time getting them to sleep at night they would not go to sleep until after 2 a.m. and I have to be up at 5 a.m. I am desperatly trying to keep my patience I figure it's gonna take me a week or so and thank god she is no longer "watching" my kids.
