If you write Calories with a capital 'C' it means kilo calories, and calories with a small 'c' means the much smaller calorie measurement that is so small it's only useful to scientists

A KCal is a Kilo Cal, or 1000 Cals

Technically the amount of energy in food is kiloCalories, hence kCal. It's just generally understood that when you say calories in reference to food/diet, you mean kCal.
