I've just had a call from a BT number 0871 666 0504 . When I answered the phone I got a voice saying "This is the information team. Please give us a call on" (and then a number, whcih I didn't write down). A quick web search on phone scams and it looks as if by not answering I've saved myself a pound a minute for however long I chose to believe that the call was genuine.

I got the 08716660504 number from pressing 1471 and now I want to report it, but BT doesn't offer me any facility to do this, nor do the police.

Surely BT should be able to take reports of this sort and stamp out the problem as soon as it occurs?

According to www.icstis.org.uk 0871 numbers cost up to 10p per minute but will not be regulated until 2008. The number the voice gave me on the phone began with 07
Maybe other people have had this message and wrote the 07.. number down and can report it to www.icstis.org.uk!

Just had another of these calls, this time supposed to be from MBNA bank with a freephone number 08003288204.

This time I called Consumer Direct on 0845 4040506 and they said they will report it to Trading Standards.

BT got back to me and said that the 0871 number wasn't one of theirs.

Anyone else been getting these calls?

I got one of these calls too, but I did not ring it back, the caller did say the number as 0871 6660504, which I did not write down at the time as I did not have anything to hand, but 1471 did give me the number. I've no idea what it is about, and not sure if I should. So my advice is don't bother.
