Supply and demand. There are few enough Klimts to go around, so the market responds with higher prices.

what's ever in demand. he did use gold for some of the well known ones..eg. 'the lovers'

supply and demand, people are willing to pay lots of money for it, etc, and perhaps because he used gold leaf too
